About this opportunity:

The Operations Support Team in Canadian Thermal & Conventional Heavy Oil is currently seeking a Senior Process Safety Engineer.

The successful applicant must possess a solid technical background in process safety management and the ability to collaborate with people using our process safety systems. The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills and work well in a dynamic team environment, providing training and troubleshooting support for process safety tools used to manage operational issues and tasks.

What you'll do:

  • Provide training and facilitation for Process Hazard Assessments (PHAs) in the engineering of Facility Engineering Projects to ensure consistency in the application of risk assessment techniques
  • Provide training and facilitation for Abnormal Conditions risk assessments
  • Manage HAZOP revalidation programs, including the planning and scheduling of review sessions with key stakeholders and resolution of HAZOP actions items
  • Lead the execution of HAZIDS, Bow Ties, Major Accident Hazard reviews
  • Lead verification activities to measure the effectiveness of process safety systems
  • Provide assurance and reporting on process safety activities and progress on continuous improvement of process safety systems
  • Manage the CTCHO Process Safety Dashboard
  • Support development and roll-out of Barrier Health reporting, including incorporation of Standard Testing & Verification criteria into metrics tracking the health of Safety Critical Equipment and Elements
  • Liaison with central process safety teams to lever their specialized expertise and ensure alignment of CTCHO systems with corporate standards
  • Support LOD2 and LOD3 verification audits of process safety systems within CTCHO and other business units in Cenovus
  • Travel to field locations will be required on occasion to create effective working relationships with field stakeholders that this role supports

Who you are:

  • must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • APEGGA Professional Engineer with 8-12 years of related experience
  • experienced in the application of risk assessment techniques such as HazOps, What-if Analysis
  • well developed organizational and interpersonal skills
  • proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
  • strong leadership, with people and influencing skills, including an ability to draw on specialist technical knowledge
  • Ability to solve technical issues through innovative approaches to safety engineering and risk management solutions
  • Thermal heavy oil experience not required but would be preferred.
  • Oil & Gas site experience deemed an asset
