The Central North Correctional Centre is seeking two (2) dynamic and motivated individuals to assume the role of a Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor.

The RN Supervisors will assist with developing and implementing health care standards, practices and procedures, and plan, coordinate, and evaluate health care programs/services. In addition to technical nursing expertise, we need a strong leader to support a multidisciplinary team in ensuring a safe environment for both inmates and staff through the effective delivery of medical and nursing programs and services.

Please note: As this is a frontline essential position, your physical presence at the office is crucial to this role and this position will be fully onsite and includes 'on-call' responsibilities.

As an RN Supervisor, you will:
• Supervise the provision of health care services for the institution on an assigned shift by ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the institution's health care services centre.
• Ensure a safe environment for both inmates and staff through the effective delivery of medical and nursing programs and services.
• Assist in the development and implementation of health care policies, practices and procedures; provide professional direction to subordinate staff; and act as the Manager, Health Care Services as required.
• Manage the pharmacy program, including ordering, reconciling, and distributing, and ensures the maintenance and security of all medications.
• Maintain records and statistics to identify trends and developments that have critical program/service delivery implications and develop recommendations for mitigation.
• Review and process Freedom of Information (FOI) requests for offender medical information.

How do I qualify?Mandatory• You are a Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

Leadership and Management Skills:• You can supervise, plan, and coordinate the daily operations of an assigned team by setting and communicating standards and priorities, scheduling, assigning, and reviewing work, evaluating performance, and identifying and escalating performance issues.
• You have leadership skills to provide direction, coaching, and mentoring to a team of Nurses.
• You have knowledge of financial and human resource management to manage an allocated budget and reports on financial activities, and to participate in recruitment, training, and employee relations matters.
• You can ensure professional standards are met by developing, maintaining, and evaluating procedures and methods for delivery of health services, recommending improvements as needed.

Specialized Knowledge:• You have knowledge of nursing administration, health care programs and operations.
• You have knowledge of health care professional regulatory bodies, practices and standards to ensure compliance and can interpret relevant legislation (e.g. Regulated Health Care Professions Act, Health Care Consent Act, Mental Health Act).
• You have the ability to acquire knowledge of correctional philosophies, policies and procedures relating to health care services in a security-based adult correctional institution.
• You have a general level of understanding about emergency response procedures.

Relationship Management and Communication Skills• You have interpersonal and communication skills to respond to service delivery issues with inmates and their families, community agencies and organizations.
• You demonstrate the ability to exchange information and provide advice on offender needs to medical practitioners, and to discuss medical issues with offender family members.
• You can liaise effectively with community partners such as Mental Health centres, Public Health departments, private physicians/specialists, hospitals.

Evaluation and Analytical Skills• You can maintain records and statistics to identify trends that have critical health care service delivery, policy and planning implications.
• You can evaluate and ensure consistency of professional standards and procedures of health care are provided and maintained.
• You can assess risks and make sound decisions surrounding continued health care and treatment needs
