Step 1: All regular/fixed-term OCAA and ALOC lawyers on staff, current Redeployment List Members and current Articling Student Hireback Pool Members.
Step 2: In the absence of qualified applicants at Step 1 the competition may be reposted so that external applicants or non-members of the above-mentioned groups would then be eligible to apply.

The Ministry of the Attorney General, Legal Services Branch, Ministry of Transportation is seeking an experienced and team oriented, enthusiastic and dynamic lawyer who is well organized, a self-starter, and who can work in a fast-paced environment.

What can I expect to do in this role?While reporting to the Director and/or Deputy Director, duties will include:

• Handling a high volume of files involving: real estate transactions, contract negotiations; expropriations; the issuance of permits and aboriginal law including the duty to consult
• Providing oral and written opinions in respect of legislation applicable to the Ministry of Transportation including thePublic Service Works on Highways Act, thePublic Transportation and Highway Improvement Act and theExpropriations Act
• Briefing Ministry officials
• Providing practical solutions and strategic and sound legal advice
• Participating in committee and administrative duties as assigned

How do I qualify?MandatoryMembership in good standing as a lawyer with the Law Society of Ontario

Knowledge and Skills• Proven experience in:
- real estate and commercial leasing
- contract drafting
- contract management
- providing advice to statutory decision-makers in respect of permits
- aboriginal law including the duty to consult
• Familiarity with the Public Service Works on Highways Act, thePublic Transportation and HighwayImprovement Act, theExpropriations Act and other transportation legislation
• Demonstrated computer skills
• Proven judgement and ability to work under pressure to ensure advice fully considers clients' policies, programs, objectives and interests
• Proven ability to handle multiple tasks while working under tight deadlines
• Demonstrated analytical and clear writing ability
• Ability to contribute and work effectively as part of a team
• Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills
