Adecco in partnership with an Indigenous-founded, Indigenous-led, and exclusively Indigenous-serving organization that supports Indigenous communities to address cumulative effects through a Two-Eyed Seeing approach is seeking a Technical Advisor. The primary objective is to build and enhance the technical and scientific capacity of Indigenous communities across Canada, based on the values of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities. As a resource, the organization provides funding for community-led projects, share knowledge, and link Indigenous communities together, working towards intergenerational decision-making and partnership building.

About You
You possess a deep understanding of both Indigenous knowledge and Western knowledge in cumulative effects, including different methodologies, legislation, policies, and partnerships. An active listener, you find shared understandings and draw common ground on the issues surrounding an Indigenous perspective in cumulative effects. From your experiences, you're able to synthesize this information, test hypotheses with data, and inform different audiences on the capacity of Indigenous communities in cumulative effects as well as Indigenous perspectives on cumulative effects.


Key Traits

  • Indigenous knowledge or experience is strongly preferred

  • Exceptional communicator who is comfortable in doing presentations and communicating complex ideas into audience appropriate media

  • An active listener and collaborator to help build consensus or move a common understanding forward

  • Strong working experience at a community level on cumulative effects and how that translates at different scales

  • Ability to made decisions from big picture to details while understanding risk

About the Role

Provide policy and technical advice to the organization to advance their mission. Your expertise will help inform the Executive Director, National Office, contractors, and Indigenous communities on cumulative effects from an Indigenous perspective. This includes organizing the annual conference, managing online services, networking with Indigenous and government organizations, creating communications such as announcements on the website and social media posts, conducting webinars, and giving presentations to partners.


You will lead the administrative aspects of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and collaborate with Indigenous communities on issues surrounding cumulative effects, capacity, and translating different knowledge systems. Much of your work will involve supporting the Community Funding Program (CFP), identifying areas of support, gaps in knowledge, testing hypotheses, and developing resources to support Indigenous communities such as developing the organizations network of practitioners. You will also be involved in the management of projects for the CFP, following-up on funding agreements, reviewing reports and supervising funding guidelines. This may include assisting recipients in addressing cumulative effects and managing funding agreements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead our Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) to support the mission of the organization and develop future iterative processes to improve the Community Funding Program

  • Support the existing online services of the organization to ensure they are current and inclusive of an Indigenous cumulative effects practice

  • Work closely with the Community Funding Program, Board, Members, TAC and partners to develop communication materials

  • 5-7 years of working experience related to the required skills and abilities

  • Degree or certificate in Business Administration or a combination of education and relevant experience in environmental management, land-use planning, integrated water management, or related field

  • Experience working in with an Indigenous community

  • 3-5 years of working experience in cumulative effects

  • Proven communication skills

  • Facilitation skills an asset

  • Working experience with Microsoft Office, Slack, Google Drive, Zoom, and SalesForce an asset
