Reservoir Engineering Technologist/engineer

About this opportunity:

Cenovus' Atlantic Region is seeking a Reservoir Engineering Technologist/Engineer for the St. John's, NL office. This position will reside within the Subsurface Engineering Team and is required to support data architecture, data integration, data analytics/business intelligence and related technical support areas to drive digital transformational initiatives.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing and managing the Subsurface Engineering organization's data architecture, and business intelligence (BI) solutions that enable the organization to make informed business decisions. The role involves working closely with key stakeholders to understand the data management needs and business intelligence requirements that will enable the technical teams to analyze and interpret data effectively in support of well planning and reservoir performance optimization with a focus on business value creation.

The ideal candidate would have exposure and interest in production and reservoir engineering datasets with the ability to support well delivery and reservoir performance optimization through the development of effective digital and transformational data driven solutions.

What you'll do:

Reservoir Data & Architecture Stewardship

• Identify, acquire, and integrate reservoir engineering datasets into a controlled data architecture. Develop and maintain robust data management systems and workflows to ensure data integrity, accessibility, and security throughout the well life cycle.

• Design and develop extract/transform/load (ETL) and/or ELT (extract/load/transform) solutions and API's as required for data ingestion

• Develop and maintain technical documentation such as data architecture schematics, data management standards and guidelines, and technical artifacts as required for solution design and delivery

Data Analysis and Visualization

• Apply advanced analytics and visualization techniques to derive actionable insights from complex reservoir (and multi-disciplinary) datasets, facilitating informed decision-making.

Data Intelligence

• Design and implement intelligent algorithms/models (diagnostic, predictive, prescriptive) utilizing Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to optimize reservoir characterization and reservoir management strategies.

Reservoir Engineering Evaluation and Interpretation

• Complete ad hoc reservoir engineering analysis including material balance, reservoir simulation & modeling as needed.

• Complete ad hoc forecasting using integrated models for White Rose and Terra Nova

Production Reporting Systems

• Provide hoc support for Production Reporting Systems, allocation and real-time historians

Who you are:

• BSc in Engineering/Computer Science or Technical Diploma, MSc in considered an asset

• 4+ of experience in the oil and gas industry, preference for reservoir or production engineering experience

• Reservoir Simulation experience: (Eclipse, Intersect, tNavigator)

• Nodal Analysis experience: (PETEX Gap, Prosper, MBal)

• Programming Languages: Python; Oracle PL/SQL; .net; Aspen SQL; VBA

• Database expertise: ASPEN IP21 (real-time historian); databricks Oracle; SQL Server; Databricks

• Data Analytics & Visualizations: Power BI; Spotfire; AspenOne; Aspen Graphics

• Production Systems Information Management: Data collectors; Communication gateways (CIM-IO); Data historians

• Ability to work effectively within a team and within the organization to achieve goals, and to identify and resolve problems

• Ability to adapt to a variable working environment with changing tasks, responsibilities, and people

• Strong analytical skills and ability to identify key issues based on relevant data and provide appropriate solutions/recommendations

• Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills

• Capable of acting independently, when required, and with initiative to achieve goals beyond what is required
