Tangent Design Engineering is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer who possesses the vision to transform concepts into reality. As a key player in our design team, you'll tackle challenges that defy convention and push the boundaries of possibility. From conceptualization to prototyping, you'll be an integral part of a company that partners with their clients to move swiftly to innovate the future


This position is required on site Monday to Friday at our location in Calgary, AB. It is also a 14 – month contract (mat leave replacement) but could potentially lead to a permanent, full-time position.


Day-to-day responsibilities of the Mechanical Design Engineer will include:


  • Assuming a mechanical product design and engineering role in product development projects from concept and technology evaluation, through multiple design phases, to manufacturing
  • Providing detailed mechanical designs and drawing services in SolidWorks
  • Executing design and engineering tasks as directed by the Supervising Engineer
  • Liaising with prototype manufacturers and managing builds
  • Assembling and testing prototypes at the Tangent shop


On your resume, we ask that you demonstrate:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • 2+ years' experience in product design or engineering roles
  • Eligible for membership in, or a member in good standing of, the Association of Professional Engineers of Alberta (APEGA)
  • Extensive knowledge of MS Office and Windows environments
  • Product design experience in cleantech, industrial, or medical industries
  • Previous experience assembling and testing prototype designs
  • Experience with 3D CAD Software (SolidWorks)


During the interview, we will ask you to:

  • Highlight your passion for engineering design and interest in technology development
  • Describe your prior experience in hardware/software development, highlighting specific responsibilities and achievements.
  • Ensure you have a driver's license and are able to travel throughout Calgary regularly to client sites
  • Describe your experience using 3D CAD / SolidWorks applications
  • Explain how you've effectively communicated with team members or resolved issues in previous projects
  • Elaborate on how you've successfully provided creative solutions to design challenges
  • Describe your approach to learning and how you've collaborated with colleagues
