JOB SUMMARY
The Product Development Specialist works closely with cross-functional teams to design, develop and launch new products to meet the evolving needs of Westbrook’s customers. This role will manage the development process from concept to production.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conduct market research and gather customer feedback to identify new product opportunities and improvements to existing products;
• Collaborate with Sales, Engineering and other internal team members to create innovative and functional product designs;
• Manage the product development process from concept to production for new greenhouse structures and related systems;
• Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation, to ensure successful product launches;
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, installation manuals, etc.;
• Facilitate product designs for manufacturability and construction optimization;
• Oversee prototype development, testing, and evaluation to ensure products meet quality and performance standards;
• Coordinate with Production team to ensure seamless transition from design to production;
• Provide technical support and training to Sales to facilitate successful product launches;
• Provide technical support to installers during construction phase of new greenhouse designs;
• Continuously seek opportunities to improve product performance, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Design, Product Development, or a related field;
• 3+ years’ experience in product development, preferably within the agricultural or construction industries;
• Strong understanding of greenhouse structures, materials, and manufacturing processes;
• Familiarity with employing a stage-gate model for product development;
• Knowledge of sustainability practices and trends in the agricultural industry an asset.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
• Excellent project management skills with a proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget;
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities;
• Excellent communication skills;
• Strong teamwork and collaboration skills to work cooperatively with other departments, customers and other key stakeholders;
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and deliverables on an ongoing basis
• Strong organization skills and time management skills;
• Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook);
• Intermediate proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks), structural analysis software and other design tools.
