We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled and detail-oriented Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) Technician/Technologist to join our team in our Sydney, NS office


CBCL is looking to hire a Technician for the Structural Group in Sydney, NS. Applicant must be able to work independently as well as with a group, have a keen attention to detail, multitask on several projects at the same time, be independently driven. Previous experience with structural building drafting and/or marine infrastructure drafting is preferred. Knowledge of Revit is considered an asset along with experience with AutoCAD. The applicant will be required to follow CBCL's drafting standards and client specific standards as required.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Preparing structural drawings utilizing AutoCad and preparing structural models utilizing Revit;
  • Coordinating projects with other project disciplines;
  • Working closely with a senior project engineer & project managers to ensure project deliverables are created on time and under budget;
  • Working closely with junior project engineer(s) to relay timelines and identify what information is required and when it is required;
  • Visiting project sites as required to take field measurements, notes etc.;
  • Following checking and self-checking process, issuing drawings to internal and external clients, and managing electronic information;
  • Engage as part of large multidisciplinary teams and coordinate design documents for consistency;
  • Utilize collaboration techniques for information management and implement Building Information Modelling (BIM);
  • Reviewing incoming models and/or drawings from other disciplines/Consultants and making adjustments to structural drawings as required;
  • Performing Quantity take-offs.
  • Reviewing shop drawings and answering RFI's during the construction process;
  • Coordinating design changes and issue site instruction sketches as required;
  • Performing field observation reviews of the structural aspects of projects that would include reviewing reinforcing for concrete structures, steel structures and masonry/timber structures;

YOUR CAPABILITIES AND CREDENTIALS

  • Graduate from an accredited college program in Engineering Technology, CAD Technology, or from a career college in Engineering CAD / BIM Technology;
  • 2+ years progressive drafting experience as a modeling/drafting practitioner;
  • Strong working knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD;
  • Excellent time management skills, setting priorities, to complete deliverables on time;
  • Self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills to understand what tasks are required to deliver projects and assignments successfully, as well as solving technical challenges while developing new workflows;
  • Prepare final drawings based on prior work examples and other input from designers or engineer;
  • Maintain and improve on knowledge of drafting techniques, standards, practices, and engineering procedures;
  • Good understanding of project construction practices;
  • Good understanding of structural engineering drawings and details;
  • Well organized and have an attention for detail;
  • Ability to operate both as a part of a team and independently;
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications; and
  • Strong technical, written and verbal communication skills;
