Position Summary
Reporting to the R&D Professional | Supervisor, R&D Lab, the Technologist I provides set-up and operation of laboratory and pilot plant test equipment and support to commercial operations.
This position is based out of Sherritt's Technologies Division in Fort Saskatchewan, AB.
Accountabilities
- Assemble and operate routine laboratory and pilot plant test equipment
- Perform maintenance on routine laboratory and pilot plant test equipment, as per established procedures and protocols.
- Support the preparation of feed materials and chemical solutions for laboratory and pilot plant testing, including the operation of crushing and grinding equipment.
- Handle toxic, corrosive, and/or flammable materials, following established procedures.
- Collect and prepare test samples for analysis and conduct routine analyses
- Provide equipment assembly and operating data, test readings and observations through the preparation of relevant data sheets, graphs, and diagrams.
- Monitor equipment operation and sample collection in the field in support of commercial plant operations.
- Diploma-qualified (Chemical Technology or equivalent), or a Bachelor of Science degree in the physical sciences.
- Working knowledge of fundamental chemical principles.
- Plumbing and pipefitting experience would be considered an asset.
- Operation and maintenance of routine mechanical and motorized equipment, including routine chemical processing reactors.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Preparation of data tables/Excel spreadsheets.
