The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Specialist, Project Geology to join our Early-Stage projects team in Sudbury, Ontario.
The Specialist, Project Geology is responsible for geological work supporting Vale's project portfolio of FEL1, FEL2, and FEL3 studies for the North Atlantic division. The Project Geology Specialist is responsible for geological, geotechnical, and metallurgical drilling programs. The role will ensure the projects are delivered within scope, cost, and schedule while maintaining the safety and quality objectives.
This is a permanent onsite position.
Additionally, in this position you will:
Lead and actively promote behaviours aligned with Vale's safety goals for all stakeholders including employees, consultants, customers, and members of the community Communicate and liaise regularly with project team, consultants, and internal specialists with respect to the outcomes of the geology, geotechnical and metallurgical work to ensure that goals and priorities are clearly understood Recommend to the project stakeholders opportunities for project de-risking and cost optimization such as scheduling improvement, drill program optimization and safer techniques Work collaboratively with the subject matter experts to ensure that up to date geological, structural, hydrogeological, geotechnical and resource models are available for use by project teams. Provide input into mine design criteria related to cut-off grade, ore blending, and mineability & dilution Design and review drill programs and propose and communicate changes that would benefit the project Interface with project team, owner's team, consultants, drilling contractors and mine operations to ensure no aspect of the project is overlooked or lags in progress and assists in the development and implementation of recovery plans.Mitigate deliverable delays by coordinating the different disciplines and establishing priorities. Complete geological reports required by the project teams to legislative and company governance requirements
About You
Education:
Undergraduate degree in Geology or Geological Engineering is required P. GEO. Or P.Eng is required
Experience:
Over 10 years of experience
Skills:
Experience in delivering FEL 1/2/3 level studies Use of industry standard 3D geological modelling Tools (i.e. Datamine, Leapfrog...) Experience in developing and managing diamond drill programs Underground, open pit, and processing experience (technical and operations) Solid understanding of mineral resource and reserve reporting Knowledge of mineral and metallurgical processing Knowledge of geotechnical data collection processes
