About this opportunity:

The primary responsibility of the Operations Trainer role is to mentor Operators and support the competency assurance training program for sites. The successful candidate will work closely with operations and maintenance to support training requirements, assessments and to identify and close knowledge/skills gaps within their respective teams.

A key aspect of this role will be to support the continual development of employee performance through mentoring and assessing as part of the training process. The ideal candidate will, along with a strong operations technical background, possess and effectively demonstrate a high level of communication, integrity, and leadership.

Work Environment:

  • This position is in Lloydminster and requires the successful candidate to live in the area. Travel to other Cenovus locations will be required for this role.

What you'll do:

  • Provide boots on the ground support to the business in coaching, mentoring, ensuring our programs and processes are operating as intended.

  • Be a Cenovus Culture Ambassador for the frontline operations.

  • Conduct/support formal assessments as per Cenovus Competency Assurance Program (CAP).

  • Management of Operations Training tracking, KPI reporting, and document control management including LMS assigned and operations specific training.

  • Work directly with Operations to determine training needs, focusing on gaps in knowledge and skills.

  • Collaborate with partners and Subject Matter Authorities to implement training solutions.

  • Complete audits on applicable training and operations processes, provide timely feedback to key stakeholders and gap closure solutions as required.

  • Collaborate with and support the Learning Management & Logistics team for scheduling of field-based classroom training and data entry activities.

  • Support onboarding of new employees and training requirements of Summer Students and 4th Class Power Engineering students.

  • Review course content and create final knowledge checks and competency validations.

  • Conduct classroom, virtual and/or field instruction as required.

  • Site based logistical support for site-based training (Cranes, ATV, ARGO, MEWP…)

  • Support Instructional Designers in development and revisions of training assignments.

  • Partner with Health and Safety to ensure all training solutions align with legislative and corporate requirements.

  • Management of Change - Support and facility changes or upgrades that result in a training need.

Who you are:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

  • Completion of a Technology diploma, trade certificate or equivalent (4th/3rd class, GPO, PFO).

  • Minimum of 5+ years related experience with preferably 3 years in the oil and gas industry.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with Stakeholders.

  • Dedicated, takes initiative and can work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Superior troubleshooting skills, excellent organizational skills, problem solving and planning skills.

  • Demonstrates a high level of integrity.

  • Strong facilitation, presentation and project management skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment to high safety standards.

  • Proficiency with computer systems and applications.

The following will be considered an asset:

  • Learning Management System proficiency

  • Adult Learning training and/or experience

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
