    New Afton Mine

    Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.

    Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver.     About the Role

    Schedule: 5x2, Monday - Friday

    Position Reports To: Principal Mine Engineer / Principal Planning Engineer / Senior Scheduling Engineer

    Position Overview : As an integral part of New Afton's Technical Services Team, the Mine Engineer in Training will be initially responsible for one of the following areas of mine engineering, depending on the successful candidate's relevant experience, and current business need:

    Key Responsibilities

    Responsibilities may include rotations in one or more of the following roles:

    Ventilation:
  • Develop and communicate detailed short and mid-term ventilation plans
Design and maintain ventilation model using VentSim modeling software and drawings in Vulcan planning software Maintain inventory of fans and ventilation supplies and purchases additional inventory as required to ensure mining plan is achieved Monitor performance of primary and auxiliary ventilation systems and troubleshoot as required to maintain regulatory compliance and safety of underground workers Provide Operations with blast clearing instructions to ensure blast gases are cleared in a timely manner Provide and maintain updated emergency egress prints

Drill & Blast:
Complete longhole drilling and blasting designs & issues prints to Mine Operation Ensures holes drilled to plan; verifying dip, dump and depth Monitor drill and blast KPIs to identify productivity/quality improvement Maintain accurate records of all drilling and blasting activities Resolve in the field issues in a timely manner Continuous improvement of drilling and blasting practice Scheduling of drill and blast activities and interface with crews and contractors

Development Planning:
Complete weekly development schedule and issue development rounds to Mine Operation Reconcile meters advanced to survey scan Complete minor and major design changes as required Monitor development rates and other KPIs to identify productivity/quality improvements Lead weekly mine planning meetings Liaise with operations to understand equipment and other constraints and optimize development plans accordingly Provide and maintain updated development prints

Production Planning:
Daily draw control planning for block cave production Monitor draw compliance KPIs to identify productivity/quality improvements Liaise with Mine Operations to understand material movement constraints and optimize production plans accordingly Track draw point progress and status against long term model Perform tonnage, grade and metal tracking and reconciliations Provide input to assay and moisture sampling frequency Ensure accurate data entry of production related data into database Provide and maintain updated production prints

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in mining engineering Previous engineering experience at an underground mining operation is considered an asset Registration, or eligible to register, with EGBC as an EIT/P.Eng Proficient with Microsoft Excel Experience using Deswik, Microsoft Power Suite considered an asset

Other Requirements

Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:
Completion of pre-placement functional screen
Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver's license
Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements

Compensation

The anticipated salary for this position will be between $74,000 to $90,000. A comprehensive benefits program and performance bonus plan will also be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
