The Township of Esquimalt, with a population of over 17,000 is recognized as a vibrant, distinct, resilient, and diverse community for people to discover, feel welcome and belong. The Township is home to Canada’s Pacific Navy and boasts extensive amenities including beautiful parks and beaches, scenic waterfront walkways as well as modern recreational facilities.

About our Organization:
The Township of Esquimalt is home to 13 parks, 4 greenways and open spaces, 12 waterways and beach accesses, and 3 recreation facilities.
 
About the Opportunity:
The Parks Department is seeking a motivated individual to fill an auxiliary, Parks Worker 1 position for a three-month term, reporting to the Parks Manager.

Our Preferred Candidate:
The ideal candidate will undertake tasks associated with gardening, turf maintenance, pathway maintenance, washroom cleaning, tree maintenance, event support, and parks infrastructure maintenance.
 
Responsibilities:

Turf maintenance, ie: mowing, weed eating, edging, operating leaf blower, setting up irrigation equipment, watering of beds and weedingTrail maintenance, litter control and garbage collectionPark building/washroom cleaning and maintenance, and painting and graffiti removalOperate a vehicle to transport material to and from worksiteUse hand tools such as rakes, shovels, hoes and prunersPerform related duties where qualified.

 
Qualifications:

General park operation and maintenance experience preferredCurrent valid Class 5 Drivers LicenseExperience/education in the following areas preferred: horticulture, arboriculture, turf maintenance, construction, carpentry.

 
 
Salary: $31.18 hourly plus 14% in lieu of benefits
Hours per week: up to 40 hours per week (may include weekend work)
