Many of these services can be applied across various industries, such as oil & gas, agriculture, construction, roads and infrastructure, laydown yards, and retention ponds. Reporting to the Fabrication Manager, the Painter sprays equipment and parts with primer and finish paint to specifications. The Painter may be required to pick up materials, clean the fabrication shop area, and perform maintenance on equipment. This position is considered to be a safety-sensitive position.
Job Responsibilities
- Lay out, position, align and/or secure parts and assemblies in preparation for painting.
- Set up, adjust and operate such painting equipment.
- Remove grease, dirt, paint, and rust from equipment surfaces in preparation for paint application.
- Prepare the spray guns with paint and adjust settings for proper flow and thickness.
- Sand surfaces between coats of paint and/or primer in order to remove flaws and for proper adhesion.
- Identify paint flaws, their cause, and make necessary corrections.
- Apply necessary touch-ups, and paint by hand areas that can not be reached by spray gun.
- Produce a quality finished product.
- Dispose of hazardous waste in the appropriate manner.
- Clean and maintain shop, paint equipment, tools, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the availability and functioning of required items and ensuring safety.
- Learn and understand the operation of all of the equipment and components as it relates to the cementing of oil and gas wells.
- Participate in training and development activities.
- Other related duties as required.
Qualifications - Required
- Previous experience with sandblasting and conventional spray.
- Physically capable of moving/lifting heavy objects up to 23 kg., bending, standing, and climbing repeatedly for extended periods.
- Able to work with exposure to fumes, oils, airborne particles, vibration, loud noise, heat and cold.
- Able to work overtime, accommodate a flexible schedule, and travel to meet the needs of the business.
- Legally eligible to work in the country the role is based out of.
Qualifications - Assets
- Previous professional experience with a paint sprayer.
- Quality driven and customer service focused, both internal and external to the business.
- Excellent manual dexterity, attention to detail, eyesight, and hand-eye coordination.
- Good communication skills, both spoken and written.

Qualifications - Assets
- Technical knowledge regarding the use of tools, materials, equipment and safety gear related to all aspects of painting as well as occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Holds valid safety certificates.
- Self-starter, organized, able to prioritize and multitask.
- Able to work with limited direction, or independently to complete work.
