Job Summary:

An electrical engineering co-op student working at a company that manufactures automotive parts typically engages in various tasks and projects related to electrical systems, electronics, and control systems used in vehicles Overall, an electrical engineering co-op student at an automotive parts manufacturing company can expect a dynamic and hands-on experience that combines technical challenges, teamwork, and opportunities for learning and professional growth.


Job Responsibilities:

Your supervisor may from time to time ask you to perform other related duties not specifically included in this job description. This job's key responsibilities include:

  • CAD Design: Assist in designing electrical systems and components using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • Schematic Design: Create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and circuit layouts for automotive parts and systems.
  • Microcontroller Programming: Participate in programming microcontrollers and embedded systems used in automotive applications.
  • Firmware Development: Contribute to the development and debugging of firmware for electronic control units (ECUs) and other embedded systems.
  • Test Setup: Help set up and conduct tests to validate the functionality and performance of electrical components and systems.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze test data and assist in identifying any issues or deviations from expected results.
  • Prototype Development: Assist in the development and assembly of prototypes for electrical components and systems.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree: Pursuing or recently completed a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field. This degree provides foundational knowledge in electrical circuits, electronics, and control systems.
  • Circuit Design: Proficiency in designing analog and digital circuits, including schematic capture and PCB layout using tools like Altium Designer or Eagle.
  • Microcontroller Programming: Ability to program microcontrollers (e.g., Arduino, PIC, ARM) in languages such as C/C++ for embedded systems development.
  • Simulation Tools: Experience with simulation software (e.g., SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink) for circuit analysis and system modeling.
  • Signal Processing: Understanding of signal processing techniques for sensor data acquisition and analysis.
  • Power Electronics: Familiarity with power electronics principles for designing power supplies and motor control circuits.
  • Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot electrical issues, analyze test data, and optimize system performance.
  • Proficiency in engineering software tools such as MATLAB, LabVIEW, and simulation software for data analysis, modeling, and control system design.
