Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture is seeking a creative and knowledgeable individual to join the Parks team as a Gardener II. This position is responsible for work in parks, boulevards and other municipal properties by performing skilled tasks of planting and maintaining the District of Oak Bay’s urban forest of indigenous and ornamental trees. RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs a variety of skilled arboriculture tasks such as planting, fertilizing, pruning, spraying, climbing and guying trees.Performs a variety of skilled arboriculture tasks such as tree removals, limbing, bucking, brush chipping and clean up.Intermittently instructs or provides leadership to employees performing arboriculture tasks, while continuing to perform normal day-to-day duties.Performs routine maintenance of tools and equipment.Performs related work and other horticultural related work as required.

 
QUALIFICATIONS

High school graduation.Completion of Horticultural/Arboricultural courses, and two years of related experience.Completion of chain saw safety and Electrical Safety and Knowing your Approaches courses.International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) certification or equivalent.British Columbia Pesticide Applicator's Certificate.Certified Tree Climber (ISA).Valid BC Drivers License.Current OFA-Level 1 certification.Provision of a current Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (Note: This is the applicant’s financial responsibility to obtain this).


HOURS OF WORK Monday-Friday – 7:00am-3:30pm
Work hours may vary based on operational requirements

LOCATION(S) Parks

RATE $35.48/hr – 2024 rates

STATUS Full-Time (This is a union position)
