Salary:

Nunee Health Board Society is seeking a compassionate and experienced Mental Health Therapist to join our Wellness Team here in Fort Chipewyan, AB. This position is a contract position, five (5) days/week, Monday to Friday, bi-weekly.

As a valued member of our team, you will have the opportunity to provide vital counseling and therapy services to individuals, groups, and families. Your primary responsibilities will involve conducting comprehensive assessments, accurately diagnosing mental health disorders, and developing personalized treatment plans. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of wellness & healthcare professionals, ensuring holistic and integrated care for our patients. By joining us, you will contribute to improving the mental well-being and overall quality of life for those we serve.

Duties:

  • Establish positive, trusting rapport with patients
  • Work with clients and family members to overcome emotional, behavioral, social and financial difficulties
  • Working both independently and a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment. Developing and creating individualized treatment plans according to patient needs and circumstances
  • Meet with patients regularly to provide counseling, treatment and adjust treatment plans as necessary
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of patient progress, provide support and discuss any difficulties or problems
  • Refer clients to supportive services to supplement treatment and counseling
  • Provide crisis intervention consultation services to patient and to all members of a team
  • Maintain written and electronic records of patients in electronic filing system (ie: PATH-DMS, etc)
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills

  • Good knowledge of office procedures, data collection and reporting
  • Must be able to work in a diverse environment
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of Mental Health policies and procedures, relevant legislation (ie. Mental Health Act)
  • High level of sound and independent judgement, reasoning and discretion

Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Psychology from a recognized post-secondary institution, and must be able to provide proof of education credentials
  • Must hold an active professional registration in good standing with relevant College or an accredited professional body such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP), Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) and must be able to provide proof of certifications
  • Must have liability insurance with a provincial association
  • Minimum 3 years mental health and counselling work experience
  • Must have experience working with Indigenous populations
  • Working experience in the health care industry preferred
  • Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently
  • Must have valid driver's license
  • Must be available to work a bi-weekly rotation and accommodation is provided
