    New Afton Mine

    Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.

    Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. The area provides the opportunity to live and work in a vibrant community with its own university and within easy reach of world class ski resorts, championship golf courses, mountain biking trails, popular recreational lakes and award-winning vineyards.

    About the Role

    Schedule: 7 on, 7 off, 11 hour shifts, Wednesday to Tuesday

    Position Reports To: Assay Lab Supervisor

    Position Overview

    The Shift Assayer is an integral part of the processing team providing data with a quick turnaround time that ensures efficient production for both the Mill and the Mine onsite. Our onsite lab contains cutting edge technology in automation and digestion within an extremely clean and safe environment. The successful incumbents must be able to work within a highly motivated team.

    Key Responsibilities
  • Dedication to safety, equipment care, and the environment
Sample Preparation of Mill and Mine samples including our Automated System Instrumental Analysis of samples thru ICP-MS, AA, and classical methods such as Titrations and Fire Assay techniques Daily data review, quality control checks and reporting Maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (BSc) and 2 years experience in a laboratory; or Diploma in Chemistry, Biochemistry or closely related discipline with an emphasis in Analytical Chemistry and 3 years of experience in a laboratory. Ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift up to 20kg. Possess strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills. Fire Assay and ICP-MS/AA experience preferred

Other Requirements

Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:
Completion of pre-placement functional screen Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver's license Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements

Compensation

The anticipated salary for this position will be between $54,000 to $75,000. A comprehensive benefits program and performance bonus plan will also be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
