Program Technician - Carnivore

Your role
As the Carnivore Technician, you'll support our vision and values by organizing, and conducting surveys and laboratory studies, managing program data and databases, participating in field studies, providing input to program/project design, writing and reviewing technical reports, and providing logistical and technical support to the carnivore program.
The successful candidate will have strong, writing and computer skills to allow them to effectively organize, report on, and communicate technical information while building and maintaining strong working relationships with various groups.
Essential Qualifications

- A degree in biology, environmental sciences, or natural resources conservation/management or related fields
- Demonstrated experience planning logistics for and conducting ground and/or aerial fieldwork with large mammals
- Demonstrated experience communicating results to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Demonstrated experience accurately and efficiently managing large datasets (preferable with R)
- Demonstrated experience analyzing biological and spatial data including creating spatial products using GIS software and experience with bioinformatics or statistical software (e.g., R/R studio)
- Experience managing project budgets and leading field crews is an asset.
Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the above qualifications may be equally considered.
Knowledge, Skills and Suitability
To support key objectives and operational needs of this position, candidates will be assessed on the following:
- Experience with the capture and collaring of large mammals
- Experience with ground and aerial telemetry
- Experience managing satellite collar data
- Demonstrated experience leading field crews
- Demonstrated attention to detail
- Comfort with pulling trailers and tying down heavy loads (fuel hauls, etc.)
- Must be able to work well with others in small teams (office and field settings)
- Strong working knowledge of wildlife and habitat management, preferably in a co-management environment
- Ability to effectively build/maintain relationships both within and outside of government.
- Ability to manage changing priorities and problem solve
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
