POSITION: Registered Nurse

UNIT: 2 Main, Inpatient Surgery

STATUS: Regular Part Time (A)

SALARY: $36.72 - $37.09

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The day-to-day activity of this 20 bed Surgical In-Patient Unit is ever changing This Unit is comprised of 15 surgical beds with an additional 5 Medical Surgical bed capacity. A multi-disciplinary team approach is used to deliver quality health care to our patients.

The RN is responsible for establishing therapeutic relationships with patients and their families through application of specialized knowledge, skill and judgement, both in assessing health needs and in planning, implementing and evaluating patient care.

HOURS:

Must be available for all 11.25 and 7.5 hour tours applicable to the department/unit, and other tours as assigned by the hospital, 24 hour rotation, seven (7) days per week. In addition, the successful candidate must be available on a pre-determined basis for at least four (4) tours per bi-weekly pay period, and either one (1) weekend in two (2) or three (3) weekends in six (6).

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Registered Nurse, currently registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Graduate of a BSc in Nursing or education and experience that allows the RN to practice at full scope
Preference will be given to those with at least one (1) year surgical experience within past three (3) years
Current BCLS certification
Medication administration inclusive of IV medication administration, with a physician's order
Experience with initiating IV site and solution, blood transfusions, chest tubes and underwater seals, chest auscultation, PCA and Epidural Analgesia, complicated dressing changes, gastro-intestinal care, airway management, and continuous bladder irrigation
Ability to assess, adapt and respond within a constantly changing environment
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing/continuous professional development
Basic computer skills (Outlook email, Cerner, Electronic Patient Record)
Proven ability to work independently utilizing strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attendance record in accordance with STEGH's Attendance at Work Program required

Successful candidates must provide evidence of having received a full primary series of a COVID-19 vaccine or combination of vaccines authorized by Health Canada and having received the final dose 14 days before entering STEGH.
