Snowboard Trainer

The Big White Ski & Board School is looking for experienced CASI Level 3 or 4 certified instructors, with preference given to candidates holding their CASI Evaluator certification (Level 1 or higher), to join the team as a Snowboard Instructor and Trainer. If you aspire to be apart of a strong team of Ski and Snowboard trainers, we are looking for you to join our team for the winter season. This is a seasonal, full-time position, working 5 or more days per week depending on business needs.

Trainers will be responsible for providing training on the following Ski & Board programs:

1. GAP training program. Our GAP programs run from mid-January, to the third week of March, Monday to Friday. Being assigned to this program, the trainer's day consists of up to seven (7) hours per day. The role when training the GAP program is teaching the participants using the CASI methodology for teaching and snowboarding, to the standard required for them to complete both the CASI Level 1 and 2 courses.
2. In-house staff training for Big White Ski & Board School Snowboard Instructors. The in-house training program for the Ski & Board School runs throughout the season, seven days a week and include a combination of training sessions, mentorship and lesson shadowing. Training sessions aim to improve the product that our instructors deliver to our clients. Our focus is on developing our instructors' teaching and riding capabilities, so that our clients get the best lesson possible.

Additional duties and responsibilities include:

• Teaching Adult & Kids snowboard lessons in both group and private settings using the CASI teaching methodology, and following Big White Ski & Board School's progression levels.
• Teaching clients and demonstrating quality lessons relevant to the ability level of your students
• Evaluating lesson participants and completing achievement records where necessary
• Always working with safety in mind to safeguard guests and fellow workers
• Planning lesson content to create a safe and fun learning experience
• Evaluating instructors' lessons where scheduled, providing written and verbal feedback for staff evaluations
• Ensuring effective public relations, and problem solving as required
• Working cooperatively and maintaining ongoing communication with other program trainers and Ski & Board School staff
• Working with the technical director to aid in the development and improvement of the training program
• Taking appropriate action to deal with incidents and emergencies, as outlined in the Ski & Board School's policies and procedures
• Attending all paid training sessions
• Acting as a role model for the Ski & Board School instructors, and fostering an approachable, open level of communication
• Assisting with promoting Ski & Board School programs

Position requirements:

• Minimum CASI Level 3
• Previous experience training staff or GAP participants
• Have and will attend evaluator training as required by CASI
• 3 or more seasons previous snowboard instructing experience, and experience working in organized settings are definite assets

• CASI Level 1 Evaluator or above status
• CSIA or international equivalent certifications
• Experience in teaching children
• Experience in leadership or mentor roles

Starting wage - $27, plus sales incentives with increases dependent on further relevant instructing certifications and time-based accruals.
