Position Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor, Aquatics, the Aquatics Team Lead (Outdoor Pool) is responsible for overseeing, ensuring safe operation, monitoring of all aquatics staff, program participants and program delivery at the outdoor pool facility. This position will provide support and guidance to aquatics staff and is responsible for respond to emergency situations.

*Please note this temporary job is covering full-time hours for up to 4 months*

KEY DUTIES:
Oversee the safety and quality of the program delivery at the outdoor pool, responsible for monitoring pool opening and closing procedures;

Administrative support, ensure accurate and timely completion and submission of all forms and records (daily attendance, equipment inventory, programming, bather logs, behaviour logs, accident/incident reports, facility maintenance and safety checks, etc.);

Assist with the staff scheduling, staff training, and skills screening, provide ongoing feedback and ways to improve teaching techniques and lifeguarding skills;

Liaise with community partners and guest services to assist with group bookings, enforce all City of Kingston policies and other relevant legislations, including but not limited to Ministry of Health regulations, Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA) standards, health and safety, etc.

Promote public water safety education and advertise programs and activities scheduled at the City of Kingston, alert and support the team in an emergency, including follow-up, assist with all safety issues including complaints involving the public and report to supervisor;

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Competencies

High-school (Grade 12) Diploma;

2 years experience as Head Lifeguard/Instructor or Aquatics Team Lead;

National Lifeguard - Pool certification required;

Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certification;

Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C Certification

Knowledge of City of Kingston specific aquatic policies/procedures;

High Five (PHCD) - Principals of Healthy Child Development certification
-Water Safety Instructor Trainer
-Aquatic Supervisor certificate or Aquatic Management Training
-Bronze Examiner
-First Aid Instructor/Examiner
-National Lifeguard Service (NL) Instructor/Examiner,
-Water Safety Instructor Trainer or Lifesaving Society Instructor Trainer
-Safety Auditor
-SEE Auditor

Skills, Abilities, Work Demands

Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check including vulnerable sector;

Must meet and maintain physical fitness levels required for National Lifeguard certification;

Various tests may be administered as part of the interview and selection process;

Ability to perform the essential duties of the job;

Ability to work under pressure and in extended outdoor conditions, exposed to elements;

Strong customer service skills;

Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team;

Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

Ability to organize and prioritize tasks;

Judgement and discretion when dealing with confidential information;

Ability to follow instructions and perform assigned duties with limited direct supervision;

Excellent interpersonal skills;

Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite;
