We are on the lookout for several dedicated Kaiako – Literacy and Numeracy Support Services to join our team,working at Otago Corrections Facility , located in Milton, Otago. 
1x full-time, fixed term teaching position, ending September 2024

For our part-time role, we are looking for someone to work 3.75 hours per day, Monday to Friday. This work can be done during school hours.
For our casual role, you will be responsible for providing last-minute cover when a teammember is unable to work due to illness or other reasons. This may involvereceiving a call either in the morning or the previous evening to cover a fullday or specific class. TeAra Hihiri is a programme designed to support the development of literacy andnumeracy skills for people in prison in New Zealand. Strongliteracy and numeracy skills provide a foundation for learning and meaningfulparticipation in society. Theseskills help sustain a person’s sense of well-being and that of their whānau andcommunities. Confidence in literacy andnumeracy also supports people to achieve positive health, wellbeing, and employmentoutcomes. Education reduces the risk ofreoffending following release from prison and allows prisoners to fullyparticipate in and benefit from other rehabilitative programmes.
Te Ara Hihiriis a culturally responsive Literacyand Numeracy programme, incorporating Te Amoranga Mātauranga Māori/ theTertiary Education Commission’s Learning Progressions for Adult Literacy andNumeracy and embedded within Mātauranga Māori. It is designed to help tauira (students) improve their literacy andnumeracy skills so that they can access, integrate into, and contribute totheir communities and workplaces.
Ensuringwe comply and meet regulatory requirements, including those set out by AraPoutama Aotearoa/Department of Corrections.
You will work closely with Ara Poutama/ Department of Corrections’staff, and will report to one of our regional managers, who will provide youwith training, advice, and support. At most sites, classes are delivered in theprison from Monday to Thursday, and Fridays are reserved for planning,training, and team meetings. 
Ateaching or training background.
NationalCertificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education (Vocational) - Level 5.
Goodknowledge of te reo Māori/ tikanga Māori (level 2 or above), or a willingnessto learn.
Afull NZ driver’s license.
Experiencewith foundation learners an advantage.
Dueto the nature of the position, a stringent police check in mandatory to ensureaccess to Ara Poutama Aotearoa/Department of Corrections facilities.
If you have teaching or training experience,Te Wānanga o Aotearoa can support you while you undertake additional study/training to meet the other role requirements.
