Job Posting: R&D AgriTech Technician

Location: Surrey, BC with field trips to Abbotsford, BC

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Vertical Farming Technician. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining vertical farming systems, researching carbon capture and utilization systems, setting up machinery, harvesting and packaging produce, conducting plant biology experiments, germinating seeds, transplanting seedlings, routine cleaning and maintenance of the lab, communicating with customers, and inspecting off-site vertical farming installations in Surrey and Abbotsford BC.

Environmental Impact:

Vertical farming technicians contribute significantly to environmental sustainability. These systems conserve natural resources by using less water than traditional agriculture, thanks to efficient irrigation and controlled environments. This helps alleviate pressure on freshwater sources, crucial in water-scarce regions. Additionally, vertical farming reduces the carbon footprint of food production by minimizing the need for long-distance transportation. By growing crops closer to urban centers and our existing partners in remote, Indigenous communities, these farms decrease emissions associated with transportation and provide fresh produce year-round to local communities.

Requirements:

• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to follow instructions accurately
• Marketing experience is an asset
• Previous experience working in a farm is an asset
• Be comfortable with beneficial insects such as ladybugs

Responsibilities:

• Assist in setting up farming systems
• Harvest and package produce
• Assist in carrying out plant biology experiments
• Assist in performing data analysis on sensor data
• Assist in carrying out carbon capture and utilization experiments
• Germinate seeds
• Transplant seedlings
• Clean and maintain the lab
• Cleaning and washing growing enclosures
• Communicate with customers
• Inspect off-site vertical farming installations
• Maintain vertical farming systems

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $19.00-$23.00 per hour plus mileage / gas compensation for travel. 

Expected hours: 40 per week
