Overview / Responsibilities

WSP is hiring an Archaeologist to join our team based in New Brunswick, on a casual basis.  We offer an excellent remuneration package with extensive safety training, and opportunities for diverse experiences and professional development.  The successful candidate will be working out of the WSP office in Fredericton, NB. 

As part of the Environmental Assessment and Permitting Team, and reporting to the Maritimes Archaeological Group Lead, the Archaeologist will be part of an experienced team conducting Archaeological Impact Assessments (AIAs)  across NB.

Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field is required.
  • Able to hold an NB Archaeological Field Research Permit to conduct AIAs in NB.
  • Supervisory experience conducting archaeological field investigations is preferred, but not required.
  • A minimum of three (3) field seasons of archaeological experience in the region (NS, NB, PEI), including leading AIA investigations, shovel testing and/or test unit excavation and/or construction monitoring.
  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors for long days in rough terrain, harsh elements, and to carry occasional manual labour (e.g., hand shoveling, troweling).
  • Experience with the identification of archaeological artifacts and features in the field.
  • Experience working with both Historic and Indigenous artifact assemblages.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team when required.
  • Ability to travel and work on out-of-town projects.
  • Ability to conduct archaeological, historical, and geological research pertaining to archaeological investigations.
