Telesat Lightspeed, our revolutionary Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network, scheduled to begin service in 2027, will revolutionize global broadband connectivity for enterprise users by delivering a combination of high capacity, security, resiliency and affordability with ultra-low latency and fiber-like speeds. Telesat is headquartered in Ottawa, Canada, and has offices and facilities around the world.
The company’s state-of-the-art fleet consists of 15 GEO satellites, the Canadian payload on ViaSat-1 and one LEO 3 demonstration satellite. Reporting to the Manager of Platform Engineering, the candidatewill work with the Cloud Architect to develop, build and maintain various Cloud-based environments based on standardized and best-of-breed solution architectures. Assist with the building and operation of Cloud-based infrastructureBridge gaps between on-prem Corporate networks and Cloud-based networks, extending the Cloud-networks into the Data Centre infrastructureMonitor performance, availability and security, and audit existing designsSupport all Cloud operations across Telesat including connectivity and integration to various Software-As-A-Service (SaaS) vendors
Candidates must live in the Ottawa area or be willing to relocate to Ottawa. Relocation assistance will be provided to those who qualify.
Candidates must be willing to be onsite in office three (3) days per week.
Responsible for the management and maintenance of Telesat Cloud Infrastructure including both Corporate, Lightspeed and other tenants as necessary.
Assist other Cloud Engineers, engineering or IT staff in the design and deployment of services on Cloud platforms.
Ensure data backups, application backups and data resilience on the Cloud platforms.
Assist in the support and operation of Linux-based assets within the Cloud environment as well as tools and scripts to support operations and management.
Development of metrics and monitoring to assist with SRE (Support) and Operations functions
Bachelor's degree in technical or engineering field or equivalent practical experience.
At least 3 years of relevant industry experience with the deployment, management and automation of Cloud-based resources.
At least 2 years experience in the operation of Cloud and data centre environments.
Experience in the administration of computer systems such as systems administrator in an operations role.
Strong understanding and hands on experience in the administration of Linux.
Understanding of DevOps concepts and toolchains.
Familiarity with SRE concepts considered an asset.
Certifications in Azure and/or AWS, GCP would be an asset.
Generally comfortable working conditions with lifting and onsite installations.
Moderate visual concentration in use of video display terminal.
