We are looking for a skilled and experienced employment consultant with a demonstrated thorough understanding of DEI best practices and workplace diversity. The candidate should have experience in working with racialized women/communities, and a thorough understanding of national and provincial employment frameworks and labour market trends, to support CCMW’s Addressing Barriers to Employment for Muslim Women Project (thereafter referred to as Project ASPIRE).
The position plays a vital role in advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace and making the Canadian workplace equitable for Muslim women. The candidate is responsible for developing workshop modules and comprehensive toolkits, based on Project ASPIRE Study findings, to be delivered to policymakers and community stakeholders at a national employment conference in 2025. The individual in this position will work in collaboration with CCMW’s Project ASPIRE team and national community partner organizations and stakeholders.
Candidates are expected to work from an analytic, feminist, anti-racist and anti-oppressive, intersectional framework. Project Description:
CCMW’s Addressing Barriers to Employment for Muslim Women Project is a multi-year project (Jan 1, 2023 to December 31, 2025) funded by WAGE (Department for Women and Gender Equality).
This project aims for the Canadian Council of Muslim Women (CCMW) to have a better understanding and response to employment barriers Canadian Muslim women face through quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis, and development of strategies and tools to address the barriers through the engagement of community partners, employers, and Canadian Muslim women themselves.
Based on quantitative and qualitative analysis, The ASPIRE Study Report to be launched in May-June 2024, includes key findings, barriers and recommendations to reduce barriers Muslim women face in employment and promote gender equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
CCMW will share these findings with policymakers and community partners by way of toolkits and workshop modules, to be delivered at a national employment conference in 2025.
Position Type: Full-time 12-month Contract Position in GTA, Ontario.
Contract Term: June 1, 2024 to May 31, 2025.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Executive Director and Project ASPIRE Manager, the Employment Consultant will:
- Identify and review the impact of existing national & provincial employment laws, policies and practices that (positively or adversely) impact Muslim women and girls.
- Based on the Project ASPIRE Study Report, conduct an environmental scan (including a literature review) on DEI best practices including studies/literature on Muslim women’s barriers to employment.
- Develop comprehensive strategies, toolkits and workshop modules for Muslim women and Canadian employers (including key findings, barriers, recommendations and best practices).
- Work with the project team and French translation agency, to get toolkits and modules developed in French.
- Plan logistics for CCMW to host a national employment conference in 2025 with an aim to share study findings and toolkit recommendations to Canadian Muslim women, employers, policymakers and employment sector partners and influencers.
- Deliver key workshops with project staff to stakeholders attending the national conference
- Create a workshops promotion plan with the project team
- Post-conference, help promote toolkits to key influencers and policymakers (ministry of labour, unions, employment agencies, job developers and recruiters, etc.)
- Support project manager and staff to share key findings and prepare the final project report
Skills and Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree or college diploma in employment counselling, career development or in a related field, such as human resources development, adult education, psychology, education or social services.
- Working knowledge or experience in areas of employment policy, human resource issues, social justice, women’s studies, education, sociology, etc.
- Work from a DEI-centred approach with demonstrated knowledge and experience in working within DEI frameworks, strategies, policies and programs.
- Knowledge of/experience working with marginalized communities, including newcomer, immigrant women and/or and internationally trained professionals who may be experiencing employment barriers is an asset
- Adhering to anti-racism, equity, inclusion & human rights framework.
- Knowledge of national and provincial employment laws; an understanding of relevant employment frameworks, with a focus on current policies affecting Muslim women.
- Ability to conduct environmental scan & literature review on employment laws, policies, and practices, particularly those affecting Muslim women, to identify barriers, gaps, and best practices.
- Capacity to critically review and analyze research data and reports to derive insights and make informed recommendations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate findings, recommendations, and strategies to employers, Muslim women, and stakeholders.
- Ability to plan, organize, and develop comprehensive toolkits and workshop modules
- Plan a national employment conference along with the Project manager and staff..
- Proficiency in engaging with diverse stakeholders, including employers, community organizations, and policymakers, to gather input, build partnerships, and advocate for change.
- Experience with workshop design/delivery; ability to tailor workshops for Muslim women and employers. in designing and delivering workshops tailored to the needs of both employers and Muslim women, incorporating research findings, best practices, and recommendations.
- Support the development of project reports, including research findings, toolkit recommendations, workshop outcomes, and conference proceedings.
- Oral and written communication skills in French would be an asset.
Working Conditions: Required to work remotely with access to a laptop & mobile phone. Some evening and weekend work is required. Occasional travel may be required.
Contract Remuneration: 12-month fixed-price contract. $36,000 (inclusive of HST).
