A.W. Hooker Associates Ltd is a medium sized Quantity Surveying / Construction Cost Consultants company for the construction industry with over forty years of experience in the industry. We are currently seeking an Intermediate Electrical Quantity Surveyor / Cost Consultant who is ambitious, goal-oriented and motivated by a challenge.

Responsibilities Include but not limited to:

  • Read construction drawings and specifications at an advanced level
  • Ability to prepare, co-ordinate & deliver estimates (on schedule & within fees)
  • Ability to prepare and complete trade/elemental take-offs based on preliminary design documents
  • Ability to complete an elemental estimate, including the preamble, customized estimate summaries, ready for review with a Senior Quantity Surveyor or Principal-in-charge.
  • Be able to interpret and understand elemental ratios for various building types
  • Be able to assume some of the responsibility for the scheduled completion of portions of the work. This would include ensuring the work being delegated is being completed on time.
  • Ability to provide direction to Junior staff when required.
  • Ability to follow instructions provided by Senior staff or the principal-in-charge in an effort to organize, and coordinate resources. He/she should be able to pass on these directions to junior staff.
  • Take responsibility for the work delegated to junior staff under their direction, including checking the work of other Quantity Surveyors for errors, completeness, and compliance with company standards.
  • Perform gross error checks on completed elemental estimates including checking elemental quantities, ratios, and unit rates.
  • Be capable of preparing a plan for the delegation of work, and effectively utilizing resources in the completion of a given task.
  • Be capable of assuming some of the responsibility for the scheduled completion of the work of junior staff under their direction, and be conscious of how the work under their control fits into the overall project schedule. The Professional Quantity Surveyor must be a team player within the project team.
  • Coordinate the distribution of the applicable project documentation to the various team members including sub-consultants and other employees of the company in a timely manner.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Minimum 3 years experience
  • Knowledge of MS Excel and general computer skills are essential, as well as, good command of the English language, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to read architectural drawings.
  • Background in Blue Beam Revu Software an advantage

Qualifications / Educational Requirements

  • Completion of or working towards the PQS or CEC designation is required.
  • Relevant Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, or Electrical Construction Management
  • General knowledge of Electrical, Electronics & Auxiliary works
