Summary:

Under the direction of the Senior Superintendent, HSE, The HSE Supervisor will work closely with the department managers and assist with safety related administrative tasks as well as attend team meetings and other meetings as requested. The incumbent is to conduct all activities in a manner that supports the mission the vision and values of Fort McKay Group of Companies LP.
This is a safety-sensitive position that requires completion of pre-employment/pre-access testing.

Key Focus:

  • Conducting Field Tours, Worker Observations and Work Site Safety Inspections
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and hazardous conditions. Complete incident causation analysis, develop, implement and follow up on corrective actions
  • Attend toolbox meetings, pre-job planning/kick offs, monthly safety meetings, weekly client and HSE team meetings
  • Create and review tool box talks and safety meetings.
  • Create procedures, accept Standards and ensure they are compliant with OHS & client standards
  • Participate in internal Audits
  • Quality check, count and file operations documentation then update site-based statistics
  • Take lead in creating Job Safety Analysis and perform updates as conditions and processes change
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current OH&S legislation, Federal and Provincial laws as well as company standards and policies
  • Provide mentoring to workers and leaders in maintaining safe work habits and practices
  • Participate and contribute with ongoing procedural, policy and other documentation development and updates as required
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of Safety systems are required and knowledge of INX
  • Pull reports and provide trends on an ongoing basis to assist with continual improvement of the Safety Management system and provide feedback to HSE, operational teams and client.
  • Have leadership qualities as you will be working with coaching and mentoring HSE advisors.
  • Prepare Performance Evaluations & Corrective Actions for direct reports.
  • Prepare monthly documentation for Client based meetings and complete statistics
  • Knowledge of best practices when dealing with injury management and WCB matters

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Completion of a High School Diploma, or a GED equivalent is required.
  • A valid Class 5 License (or equivalent) is required, along with a satisfactory 3-year Drivers Abstract.
  • At least 3-5years of experience in an HSE Leadership role in the resources sector is preferred.
  • NCSO Certification is required along with OH&S Certificate/diploma would be desirable.
  • Candidates with a CRSP or working towards one would be an asset.
  • Candidates with COR auditor certification would be an asset.
  • Valid CSTS & OSSA/ CSO/ BSO training is required.
  • Knowledge in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
  • Experience in SAP is considered an asset.
  • Oil and Gas and Mining environment is an asset.
  • Must have solid incident investigation skills with experience completing Tap Root investigations and/or the use of equivalent incident investigative tools.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including good oral, written communication, and listening skills.
  • Speaks clearly and persuasively in all situations, writes clearly and informatively.
  • Strong conflict resolutions skills, with the ability to collaborate with other groups to mitigate and solve issues that may affect the contract or the Fort McKay Group of Companies.
  • Must have strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Able to identify alternative solutions, consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals.

This is a full time position located north of Fort McMurray, AB onSyncrude site.
Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day.
