Hours: Hours flexible | 5 weeks

Wage: Contract fee of $1,500

End Date: August 7, 2024

Must be flexible and willing to work some nights, weekends, and holidays. This is a hybrid position.

Squamish Arts is seeking a passionate and dynamic individual to join our team as a Squamish Artwalk Curator. As the Curator, you will play a crucial role in showcasing local artists and their works by matching them with venues and coordinating engaging art installations throughout the community. If you have a deep appreciation for the arts, excellent organizational skills, and a keen eye for curating visually appealing exhibitions, we would love to hear from you. Responsibilities:

- Match artists to venues: Collaborate with local artists and Artwalk venues to identify suitable artistic styles, themes, and mediums that align with the vision of each venue. Strive to create impactful and cohesive exhibitions that captivate audiences.
- Develop positive relationships with Artwalk venues and artists: Foster strong and lasting relationships with participating venues and artists, ensuring open communication, trust, and collaboration throughout the entire Artwalk process. Act as a point of contact for any questions or concerns.
- Curate and hang artwork at venues: Utilize your curatorial expertise to select artwork that complements the venue’s ambiance and engages viewers. Coordinate and oversee the hanging and arrangement of artwork at each venue, ensuring a visually compelling and cohesive presentation.
- Coordinate artwork installations with artists and venues: Facilitate effective communication between artists and venues to streamline the installation process. Coordinate installation schedules, provide necessary guidance, and troubleshoot any issues that may arise to ensure smooth and timely installations.
- Curate venue spaces using digital software and Illustrator: Utilize digital software and tools like Illustrator to design and curate the venue spaces virtually, allowing venues and artists to visualize the exhibition layout and make informed decisions.

Qualifications:

- A passion for art and a strong understanding of different artistic styles, mediums, and trends.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively liaise with artists, venues, and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in digital software and tools, such as Illustrator, to curate and design virtual exhibition spaces.
- Attention to detail and a keen eye for selecting and arranging artwork to create visually striking displays.
- A collaborative and flexible mindset, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to develop work plans, establish priorities, solve problems, and work within deadlines.
- Strong time management and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- Ability to complete assignments in a timely and efficient manner.
