As the Engineering Assistant- Roadway Data Collection, you will manage the Roads Data Collection & Testing Program (Road Smoothness Verification using Inertial Profiler Class 1 and Pavement layer thicknesses via Ground Penetration Radar (GPR) survey). You will also assist in inspections, material compliance, and various pavement engineering support services. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Road Data Collection & Testing Program:Determine smoothness of various road projects using High Speed Class 1 Laser Profiler, ensuring that smoothness is within specifications and recommend the penalty/bonus or rehab work if required.Conduct site inspections, collect of profiling data, analyze the technical data, and create various reports for road profiling program.Collect, analyze GPR data and update pavement asset inventory.
  • Prepare reports and summaries of the roadway data collection for Engineers and other higher management.
  • Conduct traffic vibration monitoring & reporting as required, this includes site inspections and remedial suggestions.
  • Perform various inspections within roads right of way and provide technical judgement and expert opinion.
  • Respond to Aldermanic and public complaints (311) promptly and professionally.
  • Assist in City material compliance program daily dispatch, quality assurance and quality control program of construction.
  • Provide technical assistance to Engineers in another task on as needed basis.

Qualifications

  • A completed 2 year technical diploma, and at least 5 years of related work experience.
  • An advanced knowledge of the City of Calgary Road Construction Specifications is required.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) is required.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits, and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • Basic understanding of ArcGIS (Geographic Information System) is an asset.
  • Applicants must be eligible for a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation.
  • Success in the position requires:Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills with a focus on relationship building and basic understanding of Civil Engineering, Quality Assurance/Quality Control.Strong organizational skills and ability to adapt to changes in workflow.Demonstrate good judgement and decision-making skills.
