Strawberry Fields Interactive INC. (SFI) is looking for a Senior Game Designer to work on the prototype of a puzzle/escape room game in the virtual reality (VR) platform Aexia for 3-6 months, with the potential for extension. This is a distributed studio and you will be working from home with team members in Toronto, Vancouver, and Brazil.

We are looking for a Senior Game Designer with extensive experience in puzzles, and escape rooms who’s up for a special challenge. We are starting a new project to create a multiplayer escape room game with a time-traveling twist and a level and puzzle editor in our existing VR platform, Aexia.

As our Senior Game Designer, you are responsible for taking the unique features of Aexia and using them to create a riveting escape room game. You will define the rules, mechanics, and principles for guiding puzzle-solving and player collaboration.

You are an experienced and passionate game designer. You’ve worked in VR and are excited by the possibilities it offers.

Your Responsibilities as Senior Game Designer:

  • Work directly with the Product Manager and UX designer to brainstorm, design, test, and balance compelling game mechanics to support player collaboration and puzzle-solving with a time-traveling twist;
  • Lead playtesting sessions and make design changes that incorporate user feedback;
  • Responsible for taking the unique features of Aexia and using them to create a riveting escape room game
  • Defining the rules, mechanics, and principles for guiding puzzle-solving and player collaboration.
  • Plan and implement new designs;
  • Optimize existing user interface designs;
  • Test for intuitivity and experience;
  • Conduct ongoing user research;

Requirements:

  • A strong understanding of game design principles;
  • Familiarity with VR. You ideally have shipped a VR game;
  • Passion for escape room games;
  • Demonstrable experience and insight into the latest game design patterns for puzzle and escape room games;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Ability to work methodically and meet deadlines;
  • Clear, analytical thinker with a proven ability to break gameplay design down into regular, reusable systems and articulate and document them;
  • Ability to quickly prototype and test concepts;
  • You're comfortable getting your hands dirty working directly in Unity;
  • Portfolio of sample projects.

Bonus Points for:

  • Knowledge of design software and technologies (such as Illustrator, Photoshop, Blender, etc.);
  • A keen eye for aesthetics, design, and details.
