Airswift is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join one of our major energy oil & gas clients in Kitimat, BC. This is an initial 1-year contract with a huge possibility to be converted into an employee position.
- Follow all lab safety protocols and contribute to maintaining safety and address safety issues when they arise.
- Perform day-to-day activities such as performing routine and ad-hoc testing of process samples and finished product certification.
- Ensure lab instruments are calibrated and maintained for optimum performance and will troubleshoot lab instruments when problems arise.
- Maintain lab consumables supplies, Chemicals, and reagents.
- Engage with the wider production team to build a strong and coherent culture of collaboration between operations and the laboratory.
- Contribute to performing lab testing on routine and ad-hoc samples received in the lab to support commissioning activities.
- Responsible for communicating abnormal and off-spec results to operations in a timely manner to facilitate operational adjustments if needed.
- Responsible for maintaining safety in the lab by following established safety protocols and raising safety concerns and solutions promptly.
- Contribute to upholding the laboratory's safety protocols and escalate when safety hazards are identified.
- Contribute to performing minor troubleshooting on laboratory equipment when the need arises.
- Accountable for maintaining inventory of lab supplies, chemicals, and reagents for a smooth lab operation.
- Will be available for after-hours or weekend support when necessary.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or chemical technology Diploma or Chemical Engineering Technology
- 3+ years’ experience in Refining/Petrochemical or heavy industry operations
- Proven safety leadership skills, a good understanding of HSSE requirements, and track record in managing personal and process safety.
- Good communication skills (written and oral) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organization. Work together with/ align with other engineering disciplines to support operations shift teams.
- Strong knowledge and experience with key lab equipment such as Gas Chromatography, ICs, Titrators, Spectrophotometers, pH and conductivity meters, etc.
- Strong computer skills - PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook
- Strong Knowledge of ASTM and Standard Water and wastewater testing test methods, ISO 17025 standard
- Ability to support and sustain changes.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Strong networking and business relationship-building skills are strongly desired.
- Strong continuous improvement mindset.
- Maintains a strong relationship partnership with the Operations Unit Production Specialist, Head of Operations, and technical discipline specialists sharing overall responsibility for the successful planning and execution of these activities.
- Have a strong understanding of the business, its processes, and the data landscape to be able to identify problems, generate value, and transform the way we work.
- Excellent analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills.
Work Schedule
- Regular 40/hrs. per week with weekend and evening rotations.
- Commissioning and Startup when assigned: 12-hour rotating shiftwork. Additional hours will be required during turnaround to support execution.
- This is an Overtime Eligible role
