Commercial Underwriting provides a high level of expertise in the administration of HTC’s commercial mortgage underwriting business. It is responsible for the origination and administration of new and existing loans and for ensuring the adherence of commercial credit policy, standards and guidelines, while fostering a culture of respect, trust and integrity.
Adjudicate mortgage applications by assessing prospective clients in accordance with the 5 C’s (Capacity, Capital, Collateral, Character, Conditions). Assessing risk and ensuring all applications adhere to both quality and service standards remain the overarching focus for this position.
Risk Management & Compliance, in adhering to applicable compliance obligations, including Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing and internal Anti-Fraud Policy requirements, must remain the over-arching focus in carrying out one’s responsibilities as outlined below:
Risk and Compliance (40%)
Receive, review, analyze and verify mortgage applications for completeness, accuracy, suitability and risk
Ensure compliance with all aspects of Home Trust Company’s underwriting policies, procedures and guidelines per delegated authority matrices;
Adhere to applicable compliance obligations including Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing and internal Anti-Fraud Policy requirements
Maintain consistent, objective and sound risk assessments in a high volume, service-oriented environment
Make prudent credit decisions on complex mortgage files
Prepare files and recommend mortgage deals for final approval
Maintain accurate information and detailed notes on applications, prepare and issue conditional mortgage commitments outlining all conditions that must be met to Home Trust’s satisfaction
Issue mortgage commitment according to negotiated and approved terms
3-5 years (5+ years for Senior) with mortgage lending

Interpersonal relationship building
Loan adjudication software
Bilingualism an asset
