Courtland Niagara is looking for a *Landscape Maintenance Labourer / Skid Steer Operator*, with 1-2 years experience, to join our growing team in Thorold, Ontario.Since 2001, Courtland has been a premier force in Landscaping, Pool Installation, Grounds keeping, and Snow Removal, with a network spreading across Tillsonburg, Woodstock, and London in Southwestern Ontario. Courtland’s newest division, Courtland Niagara, was established in 2023 with a focus on serving industrial clients in the region. This is an exciting opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a growing and successful organizationThis position is full-time seasonal from the date of hire to October 31, 2024 with the possibility of year-round employment for the right candidate by switching to on-call snow removal in the winter months.The qualified candidate must have a passion for horticulture and working outdoors; and be able to carry out a variety of manual labour duties. In addition, the qualified candidate must be able to competently drive a skid steer (Bobcat T64) about 20-30% of the time and be able to capably use the skidsteer to: load, move, and unload materials such as gravel, soil, and salt; dig, grade, level, and backfill; move pallets and material bins via the fork attachment; brush cut via the brushcat attachment; and other related duties as assigned. Candidates will be required to complete a short demonstration of grading as part of the interview process so that interviewers can confirm the candidate's proficiency.*Hours*: 35 to 50hrs/week Monday to Friday 8 hour day shifts. May include occasional weekend work.*Hourly Wage Range*: $23-$24/hr depending on experience*Major Responsibilities*:* Daily grounds keeping and landscape maintenance of industrial properties* Operate various pieces of power equipment including but not limited to: stand-on zero turn mowers, tractor-mowers with flail and finish decks, walk-behind mowers, line or blade trimmers, leaf blowers, chainsaws, pruning saws, hedge trimmers and more* Prune and trim trees and plants* Cut lawn areas, trim edges, and clean up debris* Weed, rake, and collect refuse; remove litter and garbage* Cart and spread topsoil, mulch, gravel and other materials* Lay sod or seed* Plant bulbs, flowers, shrubs and trees* Edge garden beds* Fill potholes on gravel roads* Assist in the construction of pathways, walkways, retaining walls, rock work, grading, etc.* Load and unload all required tools and equipment from trucks and trailers* Maintain clean and organized job sites, trucks, equipment, and shop/office area* Perform basic daily maintenance of power equipment (grease, sharpen, clean, etc)* Perform general landscape duties (manually transport product, prep, install, plant)*Qualifications*:* Turf and Grounds / Garden maintenance / Landscape experience is required (1 to 2 years)* Must hold a valid driver's license with a clean drivers history* Must be able to competently operate a skid steer (20-30% of the time)* Experience towing a trailer is an asset* Must have reliable transportation to and from the work site as it is not readily accessible by transit* Must have an approachable personality and be able to work well with our team and clients* Must be reliable, punctual, have a positive attitude, and be willing to learn* Must have an eye for small details and be able to produce quality workmanship* Work is conducted primarily outdoors in variable weather conditions on an industrial site and includes frequent exposure to weather elements, repetitive motions, and frequent standing, walking, bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, kneeling, crouching, uneven terrain, loud noise, vibration, etc.* Must be able to frequently lift 50lbs* Experience working with power tools such as a push mower, weed trimmer, pole saw, chainsaw, power trimmer, power aerator, pressure washer and a variety of landscape hand tools a plus* Experience conducting routine maintenance and small repairs on power tools an asset*We Offer*:A supportive, fun and safety-focused environmentA culture of continuous learning through in-house and outsourced trainingMostly new and very well maintained tools and equipmentCompetitive Hourly WageReferral Program BonusBenefit package (for permanent employees)Company hosted events (BBQ's, Golf Tournaments, Family Fun Days, etc)Job Types: Full-time, SeasonalContract length: 5 monthsPay: $23.00-$24.00 per hourExpected hours: 35 – 50 per weekSchedule:* 8 hour shift* Monday to Friday* Weekends as neededApplication question(s):* Briefly provide some detail in relation to your landscape maintenance experience held.* What pieces of equipment are you competent in operating?* What do you enjoy most about the landscape maintenance industry and working outdoors?* Please provide examples of past experience that demonstrate your skid steer skills.Experience:* Landscape maintenance: 2 years (required)* Truck and Trailer: 2 years (preferred)* Skid steer: 2 years (required)Licence/Certification:* Class G Licence (required)Work Location: In person
