By joining CIMA+ as an Overhead Transmission Engineer, you'll spearhead the design and implementation of secure, cost-effective solutions for major complex capital projects within the major utilities in Western Canada. With a keen analytical mindset and discerning judgment, you'll tackle intricate design challenges, advocate cutting-edge methodologies, and nurture professional growth. The successful candidate will work under the supervision and leadership of CIMA+ Energy group

Primary Responsibilities

  • Leverage expertise to formulate secure engineering solutions, conducting comprehensive analyses, applying sound judgment, and interpreting specifications for projects of moderate complexity
  • Collaborate with project/operations leadership to uphold safety, cost-effectiveness, quality, and schedule adherence by proposing plan/cost optimizations, vetting contractor compensation, furnishing progress reports, and coordinating workflow
  • Resolve highly intricate and unconventional design and field engineering challenges through meticulous independent research, rigorous analysis, and discerning judgment in information evaluation, advocating secure design propositions
  • CIMA+ engineering expertise through inquiry, systematic analysis, assessment of information, advocating secure design methodologies, formulating technical directives, and nurturing professional growth
  • Deliver unparalleled service to stakeholders by defining engineering scope in collaboration with clients, establishing design criteria, sanctioning technical documentation, and providing progress assessments to ensure safety, quality, budgetary compliance, and timely execution.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide crucial support in addressing increasing workloads across capital projects, emergency replacements, restoration efforts, asset management programs, and Owners Engineer review work
  • Prepare project documentation and deliverables in adherence to clients project and Engineering Design Practices, encompassing evaluation reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis, calculations, hazard logs, and test plans
  • Develop design work packages, including scope, duration, and level of effort estimates
  • Produce signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with Provincial Practices
  • Provide technical assistance and construction support in the field, undertaking field reviews as mandated by EGBC
  • Prepare designs, drawings, and bill of material for Transmission Overhead - Lines using various structure types (rigid and guyed) such as single and multiple pole structures, lattice; various structure configurations; structure materials such as steel, timber, aluminum, composites; conductor types such as aluminum and steel, copper, and composites; single and bundled conductors; and various related hardware.
  • Consider interface of lines terminations with Station design.
  • Consider associated and related civil, mechanical, and electrical systems in design.
  • Provide technical guidance and review of designs prepared by others following established practices.
  • Manage design tasks including scope, schedule, and cost.

Qualifications

  • University Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience
  • Registered member of a Professional Engineering association in BC, or eligible for registration in BC
  • Demonstrated experience with the design of Overhead - lines for operating voltages from 60kV to 500kV in an electric utility environment.
  • Proficient in design/analysis software and CAD systems, along with familiarity of drawing standards
  • Ability to provide technical direction to junior engineers.
  • Ability to find value-adding engineering solutions and reach consensus.
  • Effective communication abilities in English, including analytical skills, interpersonal communication, and presentations.
  • Experience in project management including estimating, cost control, and administration.

The expected salary for this position is from $105,440 to $131,800 based on the richness and diversity of the candidate’s experience, training, skills and internal equity. The position or associated salary could vary depending on the profile of the candidate.
