What to expect in the role You will be working with a team of 11 that provides 24/7 support to clients in a harm reduction model group home. The individuals in this home have trauma history and complex needs, and have diagnoses such as FASD, Addictions, ADHD, Schizophrenia and criminal/ legal issues, who may also have developmental disabilities, as well as mental health diagnoses. Clients can become verbally or physically aggressive at times and de-escalation, trauma informed care practices, BPS training, CPI, and harm reduction training and techniques may be required. Clients are at a high risk of overdose due to illicit substance and staff must train in Naxloxone administration. This location is an independent living group home setting. In this role you will receive mandatory training in harm reduction/ additions. With a passion for supporting people with disabilities, you will:

  • Actively engage with clients in their lives and routines to provide support, encouragement, and positive relational interactions
  • Provide medical, environmental, emotional, physical, and behavioural support
  • Monitor clients and watch for signs of overdose, or required intervention
  • Proactively identify and develop solutions for client concerns
  • Drive clients to appointments, medical appointments, or community outings
  • Learn and follow the behavioural support plans for each individual to better understand client needs
  • Complete client documentation such as behavior tracking, log notes, or incident reporting
  • Medication Administration
  • Assist clients in daily routines such as household maintenance, cleaning /sanitizing of the home and disposing appropriately in bio hazard bin, used needle’s (and illicit substances that may be found in the house/client rooms

Rotating shifts- 7-3 pm and 3 pm -11pm including some weekends
Rate of Pay
: $21.19/Hour

Additional Benefits : This position is eligible for a shift differential increase between $0.25 - $0.50 per hour for evening and weekend shifts. Cost shared benefits begin after 3 month probation. Position includes 2 weeks’ vacation, and an additional 5 flex days after 3 months employment.

  • Minimum of a Canadian Certificate (1 year program) in the Human Services sector(equivalencies will be considered)
  • Valid class 5 driver license, a reliable vehicle to use, and minimum $2,000,000 liability insurance by the time of hire
  • Comfortable supporting clients with a number of behaviours which can be intimidating

Preferred Requirements:

  • One-year relevant experience in the human services field, specifically supporting individuals withaddictions, or mental health diagnoses is strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with CPI, Mental Health First Aid, Indigenous/Cultural Training, Addictions Training, Dual Diagnosis, Trauma Informed Care, Harm Reduction
  • Any of the following trainings; First Aid & CPR, Mental Health First Aid, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, APRP, Medication Administration, PBS, Food Safety or others related to Human Services
  • Female Preferred
