As our Electric Engineer, you will:
  1. Lead multi-discipline teams to assure optimization of maintenance, prevent failures and provide for FortisBC costumers maximum continuity in service.
  2. Produce estimates of maintenance costs, forecast spare parts requirements, schedule, and evaluate technical alternatives.
  3. Prepare detailed commissioning packages, in support of the FortisBC capital plan.
  4. Participate in engineering investigations to troubleshoot, evaluate, and provide recommendations on operational issues.
  5. Assess the needs for equipment replacements and establish effective replacement programs.
  6. Support the development of computerized maintenance management tools.
  7. Assess and report safety hazards associated with maintenance of equipment.
  8. Provide operational support to FortisBC internal stakeholders.
  9. Provide engineering services for various aspects of substation design and equipment specifications.
  10. Maintain current detailed knowledge of design criteria, material and processes through suppliers, literature, and industry organizations and conferences.
In year 1, you will:
  1. Familiarize and learn all about FortisBC’s standards, guidelines and practices related to this responsibility.
  2. Work in the field with PMO and Operations to understand FortisBC business.
  3. Support FortisBC in improving and optimizing our web-based system for asset management and condition-based maintenance.
  4. Build a strong knowledge base to understand equipment condition base maintenance.
In year 2, you will:
  1. Handle all key responsibilities independently with minimal support from a supervisor.
What it takes:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, plus two to seven years of experience in electrical substation engineering.
  2. Must meet registration requirements for Professional Engineering status with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of transmission, distribution, and station components and their functions within an electrical utility environment.
  4. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated filed experience, including equipment testing and commissioning.
  5. Willingness for working General understanding of multi-disciplinary engineering and construction concepts.
  6. Ability to develop computer models and equipment for validity and reliability.
  7. Knowledge of computer programming will be considered an asset.
  8. Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices, policies, and procedures.
  9. Demonstrated knowledge with various commonly used software such as MS Office, MS-Project and SharePoint.
  10. Ability to drive for results through planning, alignment, execution, and customer experience/responsiveness.
  11. Ability to make optimal decisions through accountability, judgement, problem-solving, prudent risk-taking, market/industry awareness, and maintaining customer focus.
  12. Ability to drive and implement prudent change through continuous improvement, challenge the status quo/innovation, flexibility/adaptability, and customer value – innovative customer solutions.
  13. Ability to build working relationships through respect & integrity, open communication, teamwork, negotiation/influence, and customer relationship management.
