Mission is located on the unceded, ancestral, and shared territory of the Stó:lō Peoples, specifically on Leq’á:mel, Semá:th, Máthexwi, Kwantlen, Sq’éwlets, and Katzie traditional territories in the lower mainland of BC. Nestled on the southern coastal mountain slopes overlooking the lush Fraser River Valley, Mission is a rapidly growing and dynamic community of approximately 41,500 residents, 20 kilometers north of the US border and 70 kilometers east of Vancouver. Although Mission is part of a broader metropolitan area, it still maintains its distinct and welcoming small-town flavor.

Job Description
The City of Mission is seeking a Mechanic to join our Public Works Fleet division on a full-time, permanent basis. If you enjoy working on equipment and vehicles of all shapes and sizes, diagnosing, servicing and maintaining vehicles and equipment; if you thrive in a busy environment, are hardworking and have an outstanding work ethic, we invite you to apply.

Mechanics perform skilled tasks related to the diagnosis, maintenance, overhaul and repair of automotive, commercial transport and heavy-duty equipment and vehicles of the City ensuring that the work performed meets a high standard of quality and excellent customer service.

Qualifications
Along with high school graduation (or equivalent), you will be a certified journeyman mechanic, or interprovincial Trade Qualification (TQ), in heavy duty or commercial transport. You will also have a minimum of one year of related work experience.

The successful candidate should possess a Commercial Vehicle Inspection License, a valid Class 3 BC Driver’s License with air endorsement and Level 1 Occupational First Aid certification. A satisfactory driver’s abstract will be required before employment can be confirmed.

Additional Information
The 2024 rate of pay for this CUPE position is $44.08 per hour plus full benefits, including pension, upon completion of probation.

The hours of work are 7:30 am to 5:00 pm (nine-hour shifts; 72 hours bi-weekly) on the Sunday to Wednesday shift.
