Under the supervision of the Capital Works Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for maintaining contracted assets (Bridges, culverts, roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, vegetation, etc.) per standards and conditions specified in the contract .
Repair and maintain highways, roads, and bridges to ensure they are safe and in good condition for drivers, using heavy equipment and other hand or power tools.
Traffic control setup and removal in accordance with OTM Book 7
Operate heavy equipment including but not limited to traffic control equipment, vac truck, boom truck, bucket truck, dump truck, excavator, loader.
Work with concrete, asphalt, and steel. Including welding, cutting, and forming.
Be available for emergency rail repairs, end treatment repairs, fencing, and any other emergency work. Be available for emergency response rotations as needed for overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Must be comfortable working from heights in bucket trucks, scaffolding, and aerial platforms lifts.
Ability to communicate with co-workers/subcontractors, understand and follow verbal and written safety instructions. Ability to think clearly and focus on your safety in your immediate surroundings, while using tools and equipment, while driving or operating equipment.
Minimum of three (3) years related work experience in bridge/road construction and maintenance (outdoor work -Preferred).
Minimum valid G driver's license required and a good driving record to drive company vehicle. Ability to attain a valid Ontario Class DZ license is an asset.
Successful completion of training in traffic control methods, first aid, transportation of dangerous goods, WHMIS and job-related aspects of Occupational Health.
The incumbent will spend time completing field work.
Field Environment
~ Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and sometimes high.
