The School is seeking a dynamic Learning Resource teacher, preferably with a background in math and science to become part of our highly engaged, progressive, and professional Learning Resource Department.
Working with students, faculty, and parents to ensure educational equity and accessibility for all students by providing programming and coordinating academic supports to reduce barriers to learning.
Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum, hearing, as well as other medical conditions. Liaising with a student’s support team (families, faculty, community support services) to develop individualized support programs, collaborate to adapt/differentiate instruction, and to ensure a coordinated approach is used to address academic, behavioural and/or social-emotional needs.
Developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans and required Ministry documentation and reporting.
Supporting students in various ways which includes academic coaching to promote independence, embedding learning strategies and teaching compensatory skills throughout curriculum, and by providing instruction in skills and concepts to individuals or groups.
Contributes to the extra-curricular life of the school.
A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree, preferably with a specialization in Educational Psychology, Special Education, or equivalent.
Eligible for, or holder of a current BC teaching certificate.
Familiarity with the BC Curriculum and Independent School experience is an asset.
Experience developing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and ensuring a coordinated approach is used to address academic, behavioural and/or social-emotional needs.
Strong communication/collaboration skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team (e.g. families, teachers, counsellors, administration, and community support services) to coordinate student programs and services.
Post-secondary coursework in the areas of students with special needs, assessment/testing theory and practice, and strategies for adapting and modifying curriculum to meet the diverse needs of students.
Post-secondary coursework in the areas of teaching students with specific needs, computer technology for the classroom, and meeting the diverse behavioural and emotional needs of students is an asset.
Experience with providing academic coaching to students to promote independence and advocacy in learning.
Confidence and experience in organizing and coordinating assessment sessions for students with accommodations, including provincial and in-house exams.
Must pass and maintain a clear Solicitor General criminal record check for the purpose of working with children.
