Construction Engineer

WSP has a new opportunity for a Construction Engineer to join our Earth and Environment Applied Solutions (EEAS) team on a full-time basis based in Montreal, Quebec. The construction engineering team handles a diverse range of both engineering and construction operations related to projects across Canada in support of WSP's engineers, scientists, and the other operating divisions. Resourcefulness and capability to define, develop and lead multidisciplinary projects with a strong business sense is critical to this role. The successful candidate will be working with a regional team leading large-scale, multi-disciplinary projects, focusing on infrastructure services, decommissioning and demolition, mine closure, site remediation, and ground improvement works. Projects are delivered in various forms, form contract administration, contract management to general contracting. The role involves working in closely integrated project teams delivering Construction Engineering Services that support our project teams and our clients in Ontario and Eastern Canada. Construction Engineering is the practice of engineering "How-To" for our project teams and clients, and working closely to deliver the "How-to" in the field. Our practice area provides technical leadership to projects, and developing technical solutions to solve challenges in construction projects. Target projects will focus on mining and heavy civil opportunities primarily in Canada. This role in WSP's EEAS is responsible for the oversight projects and leading project teams.

Overview of the Role:
  1. Detailed engineering design and specification package development
  2. Project development, work instruction planning (WIP's), project planning, phasing and scheduling - working with stakeholders to ensure constructible project delivery
  3. Candidates must demonstrate means and methods knowledge of construct with the ability to provide detailed sequential descriptions of how to execute work
  4. Candidates will assist with other constructability reviews
  5. Project management of engineering projects, and contract administration experience is required as part of project delivery
  6. Work with estimating functions and procurement functions on development of scopes of work and providing support to estimating and procurement activities as necessary
  7. Preparing detailed engineering estimates for projects
  8. Assisting team in the preparation of proposals and presentations to promote services
  9. Management of project health and safety, with support from the operational and corporate H&S team
  10. Project scheduling (MS Project and Primavera P6)
  11. Working with field staff to resolve technical and constructability issues
  12. Assist senior staff with business development
Skills, Abilities, and Qualifications:
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering and Management, B.Sc. or equivalent
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Quebec, and ability to be licensed in other provinces
  • A track record (verifiable) of construction project management experience with demonstratable project management role progression
  • Minimum of 5 - 8 years' experience in professional engineering practice in a variety of project assignments
  • Experience in Projects related to Mining, Environmental Remediation, Demolition and/or Infrastructure is desirable
  • Must be willing to travel 30% and work independently and remotely in WSP offices when required
  • Self-starter and with a willingness to learn and experience
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal)
  • Strong computer skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Must be BILINGUAL
