The Office of the Child, Youth and Senior Advocate is seeking a candidate to fill a full-time permanent Research Analyst position in their Fredericton Office.

The Office of the Child, Youth and Senior Advocate, in accordance with the Child, Youth and Senior Advocate Act , ensures that the rights and interests of children, youth, vulnerable adults and seniors are protected in government policy, programs and services. This is done by the following means: advocating and using alternative dispute resolution processes in individual matters, conducting independent and confidential investigations into complaints regarding access to appropriate services; monitoring laws and policies to make sure they are fair, properly followed, and rights-adhering; reporting on the availability, effectiveness, responsiveness and relevance of government services in New Brunswick; and advocating for the rights and interests of children, youth, vulnerable adults and seniors in general.

The Research Analyst at the Office of the Child Youth and Seniors Advocate plays a pivotal role in conducting in-depth research and analysis to inform policy recommendations, advocate for systemic change, and advance the rights and well-being of children, youth, vulnerable adults and seniors. This position requires a strong background in social policy, research methodologies, jurisdictional scans, and exceptional writing skills.
The Research Analyst will play a critical role in supporting evidence-based advocacy efforts and driving positive change for vulnerable populations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to apply research expertise to address systemic issues and promote the well-being of children, youth, and seniors in the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Conducting Research:

  • Conduct comprehensive research on a wide range of issues impacting children, youth, and seniors, including but not limited to education, healthcare, child welfare, elder abuse, and social services.
  • Utilize various research methodologies, including literature reviews, data analysis, qualitative interviews, and jurisdictional scans, to gather relevant information and insights.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends, best practices, and legislative developments related to child, youth, vulnerable adults and senior advocacy.

Policy Analysis:

  • Analyze existing policies, laws, and regulations at the local, provincial, and national levels to identify gaps, disparities, and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with advocacy teams to develop evidence-based policy recommendations aimed at addressing systemic barriers and promoting the rights and well-being of vulnerable populations.
  • Prepare written reports, briefs, and presentations summarizing research findings and policy analysis for internal and external stakeholders.

Jurisdictional Scans:

  • Conduct jurisdictional scans to compare policies, programs, and services for children, youth, and seniors across different regions and jurisdictions.
  • Identify promising practices, innovative approaches, and successful interventions that can be adapted or replicated to improve outcomes in the advocate's jurisdiction.
  • Synthesize findings from jurisdictional scans into actionable insights and recommendations for advocacy efforts.

Writing and Communication:

  • Produce high-quality written materials, including research reports, policy briefs, fact sheets, and issue papers, for a variety of audiences, including policymakers, stakeholders, and the general public.
  • Communicate complex research findings and policy recommendations in a clear, accessible manner, using compelling narratives and evidence-based arguments.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to ensure research findings are effectively disseminated through various channels, including press releases, social media, and website content.

Collaboration and Teamwork:

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organization, including policy, communications, and advocacy teams, to support integrated advocacy efforts.
  • Participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and strategy discussions to contribute insights and perspectives based on research findings.
  • Provide support and guidance to interns, volunteers, and other staff members involved in research projects or data analysis.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in social sciences, public policy, sociology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in conducting social policy research, preferably in a government agency, nonprofit organization, or research institute.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in research methodologies, including quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Experience conducting jurisdictional scans and comparative policy analysis is highly desirable.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to distill complex information into clear, concise written materials.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to social justice, equity, and the rights of children, youth, and seniors.
  • The position requires spoken and written competence in English. Bilingualism is an asset.

SALARY
Pay Band 5 of the Management and Non-Union Pay Plan ($63,700 to $88,972 annually, depending on education and experience)
