Applications are now being accepted for the Elementary Teacher Occasional List for the 2023-2024 and upcoming 2024-2025 School Year.

Successful candidates will receive day-to-day teaching assignments through our Occasional call out system for schools selected within the UCDSB. Please visit to view a copy of our Board map t o view where our schools are located. As an occasional you are not expected to travel to every school. You choose the locations where you are willing to travel to upon hire.

Joining the UCDSB in an occasional capacity is a great way to gain experience for those looking to obtain a long-term occasional or permanent position with Upper Canada DSB. You can also apply directly to long-term occasional and permanent positions even if you are not currently on the occasional list.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • OCT in Good Standing (If you have applied for your OCT, are on a temporary OCT certificate, or are graduating in the near future, you are welcome to apply now.)
  • Qualifications in Primary, Junior, Intermediate, Special Education, FSL/French, etc.

Application:

Applicants can also apply to any Elementary Teaching position that is of interest to them (i.e. LTO (term) or Permanent vacancy) without first having to be on the Elementary Occasional Teachers list. Please apply to any vacancy that is of interest to you so that you are considered for each.

Your completed application on Apply to Education must include the following in order to be properly considered for this vacancy:

  • Cover Letter
  • Resume
  • Updated Applicant Profile including OCT number and contact information (ex: phone number, address, etc)
  • Completed responses to all job related questions

You may also want to attach relevant diplomas, certifications, reference letters, etc. relevant to your application.

Applicants selected will be contacted by AskUCHR@ucdsb.on.ca to the email address listed in their applicant portfolio on Apply to Education.

References:

UCDSB requires your current and two most recent direct supervisors.

If your experience is in a day-to-day occasional capacity ensure that you list the length of time that you worked for that Supervisor and whether the assignment was casual day-to-day or in a long-term occasional capacity.

Placement Teacher References: If providing a Placement Teacher as a reference, The UCDSB will require confirmation and approval from the Principal at the Placement School that the deferred reference (Placement Teacher) is approved to provide reference on behalf of the Principal.

The UCDSB does not accept colleague or personal references.

Selection Process:

Applicants will be selected for an interview based on school preferences, specific qualifications, and/or availability. These applicants w ill then be invited to attend a virtual live interview via Microsoft Teams. Interviews typically include a panel of two (2) Hiring Managers.

The UCDSB selection process includes a review of required qualifications, an interview and assessment process, and reference checks. All employment offers are conditional on candidates providing a valid criminal record check for the vulnerable sector.
