About Umicore Battery Materials in Canada

Umicore is preparing to build a battery materials production plant in Loyalist Township, Ontario - the first of its kind in North America. The cutting-edge facility will be a critical part of Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. Throughout the design, construction, and operation of the plant, Umicore will be seeking a variety of professionals who share our passion for innovation and sustainability.

What you will be doing

For this new site, we are looking for an Electrical Engineer , reporting to the Automation & Electrical Engineering Manager. In this role you will bring a high degree of specialized knowledge and experience to the organization supporting the project, in developing and managing technical standards and recommendations in s upport of the construction and installation of facilities in their field of specialization and to liaise with contractors to successfully implement new assets and facilities until commissioning and/or handover , in line with the expectations of the stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Electrical System Design: Lead the design and development of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, and control systems, for Capex project
  • Project Planning: Collaborate with project managers to define project scopes, budgets, and timelines, and develop electrical engineering plans to meet project goals.
  • Vendor Selection: Evaluate and select electrical equipment and components suppliers, ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide technical guidance to project teams, addressing electrical engineering challenges and ensuring project success.
  • Compliance and Codes: Ensure that all electrical designs and installations adhere to relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Budget Management: Manage project budgets related to electrical engineering aspects, including cost estimation, procurement, and resource allocation.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify potential electrical hazards and develop mitigation strategies to ensure the safety and reliability of electrical systems.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement quality control measures to ensure the proper installation and functionality of electrical systems.

Who we are looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) license is an asset
  • 3+years of experience in electrical engineering, with a proven track record in Projects
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software and electrical simulation tools.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEC).
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and leadership abilities.
  • Project management skills, including budget management and resource allocation.
