Summer Communications Design Assistant
Location: Hybrid work out of the Métis Nation of Alberta Provincial Head Office (Edmonton). Some travel and field work may be required.
Position Status: Full time (40 hours per week), Summer Student (May – August)
The MNA is led by a democratically elected Provincial Council, comprised of a Provincial President, a Vice-President, and six regional Presidents and Vice-Presidents. This Council works toward the mandate of the MNA, supporting practices of transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness for Métis Albertans in governments’ policy and decision-making processes. The MNA promotes and facilitates the advancement of Métis people through self-reliance, self-determination, and self-management. The Provincial Office of the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA) is recruiting a Communications Design Assistant. This is a summer term position with an end date of September 2, 2023. The successful candidate will provide support to the Communications department, including assisting with updates to communication channels, design of promotional materials, photography, and maintaining extensive file databases. The successful candidate will have strong technical skills with digital media.
Reporting to the Creative Manager, the candidate will:
Create design materials using Adobe Creative Suite.
Organize branded files and signature resources files.
Help conceptualize new design materials.
We are looking for a creative individual that takes initiative and has knowledge of marketing and communication practices. Superior written and oral communication skills.
Strong technical skills and knowledge of digital media.
Intermediate to Advanced Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop).
Knowledge and an understanding of Métis culture, people, and values is an asset.
Student must be returning to school full time in the fall for 2023/2024 term or be a recent graduate (2022/2023 terms).
~ Some post-secondary education in Graphic Design (education in progress).
~ Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
~1-2 years’ experience in Communications. Able to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, and weekends.
Must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
Part time or casual employment during the school year.
