How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW? The main object and purpose of this position is to establish and provide efficient and optimal management of the Distribution Centre’s logistics activities and material resources required to ensure operations efficiency in the best possible delays and quality and safety conditions, while respecting ALC’s procedures.

1. Supervises the non-bulk flee t: Ensures, in partnership with the supplier, maintenance programs for all vehicles, tailgates and forklifts. Takes action to resolve any mechanical problems (major or minor). Organizes, in partnership with the National Fleet Manager, the return of unused equipment and the purchase of additional equipment. Monitors fuel consumption and ensures that it is adequate. Maintains a vehicle database. Ensures that all defects or breakdowns reported by drivers are corrected in accordance with Air Liquide Canada policy. Maintains an archive of all vehicle-related documents such as start-of-tour inspections and maintenance history.

2. Validates expenses : Validates and approves all expenses related to vehicles and drivers. Monitors fuel prices and advises drivers where to refuel.

3. Supervises drivers: Verifies that each new driver is qualified, and has received adequate training before being allowed to drive an ALC commercial vehicle alone. Maintains training records and coordinates recurrent training of all drivers with the driver trainer. Trains all drivers in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations, driver's manual, start-of-tour inspection, forklift use, safe driving, etc. Assesses the competence of all drivers. Coordinates, in partnership with the Logistics & Cylinder Inventory Coordinator, the training of drivers on the Cylinder Management System (CMS). Ensures that drivers complete and submit a copy of the start-of-tour inspection, record and submit a copy of hours-of-service documents (where applicable), comply with hazardous materials transportation regulations, ALC safety policies, and provincial and federal transportation regulations. Carries out driver management, ensuring that start-of-tour and hours-of-service inspection reports are properly completed. Takes disciplinary action if necessary. Manages drivers by ensuring that hours of service are respected. Takes disciplinary action if necessary.

4. Promotes safety : Develops and implements a safety action plan. Facilitates safety meetings for drivers and prepares full reports of these meetings. Reviews road accidents with the accident committee. Sends reports to head office and debriefs drivers at health and safety meetings. Acts as emergency coordinator. Responsible for purchasing and maintaining safety equipment. Takes part in several emergency response training sessions and intervenes when required.

5. Process improvement : Participates in the route review process. Works, with his/her team and cross-functional teams, on the continuous improvement of work processes. Analyzes activity, identifies causes of problems and proposes appropriate corrective measures.

  • Diploma: DEC or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 5 years in a similar position
  • Training: Quality system (ISO), transport of dangerous goods, team leadership.
  • Knowledge: Computerized systems, MS Office, road system, traffic laws and regulations and class 3 driver's license.
