Our Individuals living at Acadia are looking for Community Disability Practitioner for their daily need. The expected diagnoses for the Individuals' is Schizophrenia, OCD, Bipolar and anxiety disorders . A behavioural support plan will be provided to advance and achieve Individuals' goals. The position requires to support Individuals transportation , personal care, attending medical appointments, assist with mobility aids and use social strategies that manage anxiety. We are looking for someone with experience with behavioural challenges, and understands high-stress situations. There will be other expectations such as hygiene routines, personal care meal preparation, daily house chores, and medication administration. Driving is a requirement for this position so you must be comfortable driving in all quadrants of Calgary. You can expect possibly expect physical aggression, physical assault, verbal aggression and property damage - de-escalation, trauma informed care practices, BPS training, CPI and other trainings may be required.

About You:

  • You are patient and understanding about the needs of people with disabilities
  • You are comfortable with providing full personal care, participating in social and recreational activities such as swimming, and advocating for the Individual in the community
  • You can suggest different communication strategies for our non-verbal Individuals
  • You have a past experience with social stories
  • You have a good understanding and relevant experience with sensory integration and its strategies to prevent harm
  • You can encourage healthy living style & advance social interactions for our Individuals
  • You are willing to follow agency's policies and procedures
  • You are willing to take the time to understand and know your Individual and act/respond in their best interest, while maintaining professional boundaries
  • You are willing to research, develop, and implement programs to provide for growth the Individual
  • You can easily manage administrative work to create reports regarding Individuals' behaviours and actions

This permanent position is for 16 hours at our Maidstone group home.The schedule will be Sunday and Monday 7:00am-3:00pm. T he starting pay rate for this position will be $21.19. After three months probationary period, you will be eligible for health and dental benefits along with 5 flex days after the six months of employment. There is a high possibility for a permanent position upon the completion of the temporary role.

  • Minimum of a Diploma in the Human Services sector or Disability Sector
  • One to two years relevant experience in the human services field would be an asset
  • Past experience with ASD, mental illness, challenges and nursing would be an asset
  • Must provide valid class 5 drivers license and have a reliable vehicle with minimum $2,000,000 liability insurance
  • Intermediate in computer skills and administration skills
  • Provide medical, technological , environmental, physical, and behavioral support
  • Minimum required training in Emergency First Aid & CPR Level A

Preferred Requirements:

  • Previous knowledge regarding sensory need and communication with non-verbal Individuals would be an asset
  • Previously trained and have the knowledge of medication administration
  • Relevant trainings such as Non-violent Crises Intervention, Abuse Prevention Response Protocol, and Positive Behavior Supports, etc.
  • Additional training requirements upon hiring would be Trauma Informed Care, Naloxone, Mental Health First Aid
