About the role:

The role is in Bermuda and is an in-office position.

At Vantage, the Reinsurance Pricing Actuary, Bermuda is a key member of our Reinsurance Actuarial team. This position will play a critical role in supporting our Bermuda-based Reinsurance underwriting units. The primary responsibility for this role is focused on pricing work for Specialty (Marine, Energy, Aviation, Space, Accident & Health, Terrorism, Cyber), Property Catastrophe, Property (non-cat) and Emerging Risks accounts. In addition to a strong technical proficiency in actuarial methods, this role also requires the ability to collaborate closely with business leaders, underwriting teams, actuarial teams, and others in Bermuda.

This position will have a direct reporting line to the President of Vantage Risk Limited and a dotted line to the CEO of Reinsurance, Innovation & ILS.

You will work with an established team of underwriters with vast industry experience supporting a variety of functions including development of stochastic models, and portfolio and industry analysis. We are seeking an energetic, creative, and self-motivated Actuary with good team communication and collaboration skills that has a passion for making actuarial and data science support business decisions.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Create new or help parametrize and run existing stochastic models to support Bermuda reinsurance underwriters as they make risk selection and pricing decisions.
  • Build, maintain, and scale risk modeling and pricing tools to support underwriting activities of VRL.
  • Deeply engage with the Bermuda underwriting team at both front line and leadership level.
  • Provide pricing and monitoring support for any delegated authority relationships underwritten by Bermuda Reinsurance.
  • Perform other actuarial services including, but not limited to: regular portfolio roll ups; experience studies; assisting with competitor research; performing exposure aggregation; reinsurance/outwards support; and working with underwriters to communicate the health of the business to company leadership.
  • Find innovative and creative ways to leverage data and analytics to serve internal and external partners.
  • Remain current on industry trends, tools, and techniques.
  • Engage with Reserving, Claims, Finance, Risk, and other Group functions as needed. Provide support for B.M.A. regulatory requests.
  • Work independently while bringing in partners as needed.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • 10+ years of P&C actuarial pricing experience, including meaningful recent experience in building stochastic models for Specialty short tail business
  • Product knowledge and portfolio/marginal pricing experience for Specialty, Property Catastrophe, Property (non-cat) and Emerging Risks
  • Strong communicator with proven track record of collaborating with underwriters and portfolio leaders.
  • Experience with AIR, RMS, Cyence, CyberCube a plus.
  • Experience in scripting or programming language a plus (R, Python, Snowflake, SQL).
  • Willingness to work alongside data scientists and data engineers to develop analytical solutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, finance, statistics, economics, or a related field; or the equivalent in related work experience.
  • ACAS or FIA required; FCAS /FIA preferred.
  • Ability to process and adapt to change in a rapidly growing new-company environment. Vantage associates are expected to be curious, thrifty, and resourceful to manage through the unknowns of growing a specialty (re)insurance business from the ground up.
