We are looking for a Principal Engineer to provide hands-on technical leadership across Intact’s InsurTech Finance Core Systems.
This is a senior individual contributor role with broad technical influence. You will remain hands-on through prototyping, targeted code reviews, and technical troubleshooting when needed, while helping shape architecture, technology strategy, and engineering practices across the organization.
You will help solve complex engineering challenges, advance technology strategy, and raise the technical capabilities of the teams around you through expertise, collaboration, and influence.
Provide hands-on technical leadership through prototyping, targeted code reviews, and technical troubleshooting when needed to address difficult, complex challenges.
Lead the resolution of high-severity issues involving performance, reliability, security, cloud costs, data quality, and complex integrations across finance systems.
Define architecture, technical standards, and technology roadmaps for Finance Core Systems.
Design scalable, resilient, secure, and cost-effective solutions for data pipelines, high-volume transaction processing, and large-scale online and offline finance calculations.
Implement practical AI and agentic AI solutions, including frameworks and guardrails that improve engineering productivity.
Communicate technical decisions clearly, build alignment through influence, and mentor senior engineers and technical leaders.
Senior or Principal-level experience in software engineering, architecture, or a related technical discipline.
Strong hands-on engineering experience, including prototyping, targeted code reviews, technical troubleshooting, and resolving complex production issues.
Proven expertise in system design, architecture, cloud platforms, APIs, microservices, distributed systems, security, observability, data pipelines, and high-volume transaction processing.
Experience designing and operating systems that support large volumes of online and offline financial calculations and transactions.
Practical experience implementing AI or agentic AI solutions in products, platforms, or engineering processes.
Expert hands-on experience with Python and Node.js is a strong asset.
Experience with Oracle ERP, SAS, Databricks, and Snowflake is an asset.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical trade-offs clearly to executive stakeholders.
A bachelor’s degree in computer science or computer engineering; a master’s degree or higher is an asset.
For candidates located in Quebec, bilingualism is required considering the necessity to interact on a regular basis with English-speaking colleagues across the country.
No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
